can I capture analog video streamed via camcorder

I am having a hard time capturing video from a vCR that is streaming through my minidv camcorder into a fireware card to videostudio. It sends it through ok but as soon as I try to record in videostudio it trys to play the tape in the camcorder rather than just record the stream. How can I tell it not to control the player?

I am using VS 6 and a panasonic minidv camcorder that has ability to take analog video and convert it to a digital stream.

I would up having to first record on tape and thne play back to record in videostudio thus making the capture process 2x long.

The answer is devastatingly simple (and it took me a while to work it out..)

Take the tape out of the camcorder while doing this operation.
