VS7 error message: Failed to initialize the video capture

I installed CompUSA's USB Video Grabber with USB/Composite/S-Video adapter cable connected to Sony VHS player. VS7 capture error message: Failed to initialize the video capture plug-in. Another program may be using it or the file has been moved. Cannot find the specified interface. [15005:10:1] [15023:4.2]. I am able to get Windows Movie Maker to capture successfully using the adapter. I have heard good things about VS and hope you can help me get it working.
