If your DVDMF version is 5 Plus, then it's no need to apply the update pack. The update pack is for the Standard version of DVDMF 5.

If you have download issues with Ulead products, check the following page for help.

Ulead Downloading FAQ:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/faq/download_faq.htm

The download link in your post will lead some pirate users to download the content pack so I removed the link, sorry if you feel offense by that.

HT - Thanks for that. Indeed, the tbyb version that I have is the Plus one. So, I can now understand that I do not need to download, nor to install anythings else.

I should be able to access the tbyb version as a fully working suite by activating it.

But I still have a major problem, in that when I attempt to activate the version, pasting the licence-key that I was sent in an email by ULead into the "activate ..." procedure, I am told that it is not succesful "the activation code is incorrect".

Any suggestions, please? Oh, and thanks for deleting my inappropriate link.

I'm afraid the license code you got is a wrong one. I would suggest you to contact Ulead Customer Service again to get a correct code.

Ulead Customer Service:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/custservice_2.htm

When you submit the Customer Service Form, remember to state that you are using a TBYB version so they can know the code you request is for a TBYB.

Or you can check the Activation FAQ on Ulead website for more details.

Ulead Activation FAQ:

pinkhouse,
wow, you really got things confused.
Indeed, the tbyb version that I have is the Plus one. So, I can now understand that I do not need to download, nor to install anythings else.
Totally wrong. You need the latest version (not the trial without the fixes) and you need all the content. They sent you 5 links, each over 100MB. That is quite different than the few MBs of trial you installed, isn't it?

Reading this thread from the start tells you that you don't need the MF5 update (the service pack) if you install MF5+. And if you do try to install the MF5 service pack on MF5+ you get exactly the message we were talking about.
2) I am not trying to install a patch, but the full version downloaded from the address that was provided bu ULead,
Exactly. That's why I said you must be getting a different error message. If you're installing the product, why would it complain about the product not being there? Unless you were trying to install the patch, or some other issue.

I also had the trial before installing MF5+. I uninstalled the trial, downloaded all 5 parts (each is over 100MB) into one folder (DMF5P_Full_E.part1.exe and DMF5P_Full_E.part2.rar to ...part5.rar), and ran the part1.exe to create the installation folder.

How about posting exactly at what stage you get the error message. And exactly what file is being run. Or if you get the message while entering key (that might be wrong), etc.
Some of us are very tired of playing guessing games and repeating things all the time. Please don't be angry at me for saying that... after writing this huge paragraph I am entitled to make some noise 8)

will try again

Post by pinkhouse »

Thanks for the 24 Jan posting snoops. I will try again.

I can well understand a certain little bit of arising ire at times, when people like me seem to repeat questions that have arisen before.

But, then, perhaps you also can understand mine - the email from ULead was far from instructive or clear, I would suggest. I honestly thought that they were listing some battery of different products, not elements of the same one. Note that the file names have no meaning that's logical except to the programme writers, or to truly techy types.

If only ULead would get their instructions translated into human-speak (English is generally preferred by English speakers) , rather than assuming that we're all in love with computer know-how, it might help a great deal. ... and that's not said with ire, but with true hope for the future, and with concern for the mental health status of future purchasers.

more info for snoops and others

Below are the main paragraph numbers as received from the email that ULead sent to me. I have done all that's annotated.

Clearly, having now downloaded all of the weighty elements that were mentioned in ULead's email in response to my payment for a download to properly install DVD Factory 5 Plus, nothing at all is of any use to me.

I am VERY grateful to forum monitors and contributors, who do so much try to assist. But I too become a little stressed when (1) it is 100% impossible to communicate meaningfully with the vendor/producer and (2) forum guidance does not work, and (3) I cannot get my money back - catch 22 is still alive and well.

Fair's fair, on 25th January, I did get a nice message from ULead telling me that I'd be sent something to put all this right, but no sign yet (29th).
_________________________________________________
1. License key for unlocking the product
2. Download the full version (Extra Contents for DVD MovieFactory 5 - English)

When attempting to run this as the first logical action (the email told me to download it) I am told yet again (probably about 10 times thus far) that it can't find Factory 5 installed.
OK, so I now fully understand that may be because it's actually an upgrade programme. But surely, surely, I should not have been given to believe by its inclusion in the email that I had to install it.
It is this issue, not having access to DVD Factory 5 Plus, that causes my the greatest of concerns, of course. My tbyb version still opens and runs, but has only 10 days of breath left in its body. All I want is a key to unlock it.

3. Download the full version (WinDVD Trial)
As a second step, I installed this. I had no idea whatsoever beforehand what it actually was, since it did not at any time indicate that it was related to DVD Factory. As it installs, I am told that it is a trial version. But this pleases me not (as a purchaser, not as a forum monitor, of course), when I discover that it is yet another "player". Good it may be, but I don not use my computer for such things. I had wanted simply and solely to have a fully functional version of DVD Factory.
I therefore attempt to uninstall it immediately from add/remove programmes, but it won't, requiring the original installation disc to be present.
This is becoming even badder bad news about ULead, methinks. I must now presumably simply delete its folder, that takes up 46 mb on my disc.

4. Download the full version (PhotoExplorer™ 8.5)
I now have looked at what this is online, and do not want it. I am happy with what I already use. I therefore did not need to be told about it, when all I wanted to do was to use DVD Factory 5 Plus.
5. Download the full version (DDR - English)
It rather seems that this too is surplus to requirments. I would have thought that what's contained in this patch would have been cleaned up for DVD Factory 5 Plus, if it was at all pertinent.

Damn, your mail is 100% different than what I got. I ordered my English version in the UK because that is nearer to me than the USA.
Sorry, but I simply assumed you had received the same troublefree download links that I did.
The text I got in my mail... yes, it sucks too! It did not even mention the procedure how to install, just how to download. But I was already familiar with these procedures so I took no notice.

Your mail looks like MF5, not MF5+. If you ordered MF5+, you've been given the wrong links and wrong instructions. I guess.

And in your case it sounds like they expect you to activate the trial before installing the content. This is completely different than what I received.
The first download you mention is extra content, which most likely does in fact require MF5 to be installed before continuing.

If you read my previous post with the file names, you'll see that I received links to 5 parts (1 EXE and 4 RAR files) which must all be downloaded in one folder before running the EXE. The EXE then requires and reads all other parts to build an installation folder, which contains a setup.exe to start the actual product installation. And this includes the content that you've been offered separately.

Thanks you again snoops. I am UK resident, and therefore appear to have received a different email to yours DESPITE having gone online to upgrade via the UK routes.

I have sent emails to ULead (using their very own special "reply below" email procedure) and have no PEEP of tangible constructive feedback. On 25 January, they said - "We sincerely regret the inconvneince it has caused you. Please send us the full text of Invoice/Order Confirmation Email Receipt the vendor sent you when you purchased the DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus. With this, we can request a Redownload Service Link for your new program installer that does not need an activation code. You can copy and paste the content of the said email in the reply box of this message." Of course, I did so immediately, via their own reply process, but nothing as yet - how many days ???

I am distraught at coming across a process which appears to be wholly, 100%, totally without ANY inbuilt functional support to ordinary purchasers, and no facility to recoup money mis-spent. The episode makes net-purchasing by download feel a potentially very unpleasant process. I have now been billed on my card, but in essence there have been no goods received. Is this not some kind of breach?

can htchien assist - nothing else is working

Post by pinkhouse »

htchien wrote:I'm afraid the license code you got is a wrong one. I would suggest you to contact Ulead Customer Service again to get a correct code.
As htchien can see from subsequent posts, I have tried and tried, but cannot proceed. On his blogspot, he says "Nothing is perfect but we can try our best to find the solution for the problem." I have, ht, I have. :( Even someone as switched on as snoops seems confused by the evidence I've posted.

Nothing has worked. ULead cannot be contacted as can human beings. They allocated me a case number (17330) but their email-responding processes appear to be dysfunctional, or they're all on prolonged Christmas leave, or I'm just at the bottom of a big queue.

Why won't they send me a correct key to replace the wrong one they sent me - why did they not in the first place send me an email with the correct downloads, which I apparently still will not have proper access to (so may not have the full product, still)- why can't they just send me a disc after all?

In desperation today I am snailmailing Digital River in Ireland (who took my money) to request a refund, and to inform them that I shall seek to take them to a small claims court if it's not resolved soon.

So, htchien, any nice and easy avenues that I can explore, please, that you think WILL WORK?

Pinkhouse.
Lets start again at square 1.

Firstly:
Please click here --> Image so that we can then view your system specifications.

Next, please (even if you have done so before do it again)
Please follow these steps to remove anything installed relating to DVD MovieFactory
Our Re-installation procedure

Now run the file named setup.exe from your DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus set up disc or download folder.

When prompted for your serial number enter the licence key sent to you by the vendor. it should resemble this format
121a2-xxxxx-xxxxxxxx

If it does not resemble that format then you are using the wrong serial number.

Thanks a lot, sjj1805 - but my square 1 is not the same as yours at all, so I think that it'd not be helpful to waste your time viewing my system.

I printed off your posting about reinstallation a couple of weeks back, and did it all so far as I was capable. That's not the issue, though.

I do not even HAVE the file that you mention, setup.exe, because I was sent (by the look of it) an email that included mucho irrelevant links, but nothing to allow me access to the MovieFactoryPlus5 files I had paid for. Its subject line, though, was "Download link and license key for DVD MovieFactory 5 TBYB Full - English (element 5 order no. xxxxxxxxx)"

Further, the serial or key number that I was sent is nothing whatsoever like your example (it is xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx). Clearly, 'tis by the look of things not so much that I am using the wrong number as that they "they" haven't provided it.

You may be interested to know that ULead yesterday emailed me to say I apologize for the delay. We are undergoing a server maintenance checkup these past days to serve you better. Please bear with us. You have to  don't you.

EDIT: numbers altered to x's to prevent anyone trying to obtain YOUR copy of the product from Element 5. - Steve J
