VS to DivX

Post by Sonno »

Ok, so i coded the finished video file to mpeg2 for DVD burning purposes.

And then, i went to code it with DivX Encoder to upload it to a website, and it completely butchered the sound. i mean, the video is still top notch, to where the sound is just like static hissing over and over through the entire thing.

I know im an idiot. What the hell did i do wrong? Do you know of any basic, and free if you can manage programs to encode the mpeg2 file into DivX, or can i render the video right from ULead VS10 into DivX?

Thank you oh wise ones.

OK, when I create a Divx video file I use the Divx Pro codec (Download trial from www.divx.com)

Then, with project in Video Studio timeline, select SHARE/Create Video/Custom select AVI Files, then hit the Options button. In that window, select the AVI tab, then in its Compression drop down, select Divx. The Configure button should enable, hit it to get the DivxPRO setup screen, select the Home Theatre profile, check Use Presets and use 6 as decent trade off between speed and quality, video bitrate 1 - 1.5 Mbps, and set up the rest as desired. If your source Mpeg is interlaced, select deinterlace source on the last Divx setup tab. Make sure frame size (probably 720x480) and frame rate matches your source file. Hit OK.

Select Audio as Mpeg 2 or 3 to save file space, Select Frame Type = Frame Based in the General tab and make sure that the frame size matches what you set in for Divx (probably 720x480), 29.97fps, etc.

Name your file and cross your fingers.

Edit: If you want extreme compression for sending the Divx file over the internet, you can down rez in the above process by selecting a smaller frame size (e.g., 360x240) and you can also experiment with lower video bitrates and slower frame rates. Quality will be compromised by these steps.
