Transfering files to another PC

Post by wywso0 »

Next spring, I am going on a cruise. I have a JVC MC500 video which records an hour of high quality video onto a 4GB microdrive; I also have a spare 2 GB CF card. My plan is to take a portable PC and a 80GB portable hard drive with me and at the end of each day transfer the video shot that day to the PC's hard drive and back it up to the 80GB drive, and then to clear the smaller drives ready for the next day.

What I'd also like to do, is during the holiday, to use the PC to do some simple initial editing of the footage. However, my final editing will be done on a desktop PC which is faster - and has the DVD burner - so my question is what file(s) should I transfer from the portable to the desktop so that I don't lose my work thus far?

Grateful for your help.

If you intend to keep the video on the external portable hard drive, all you will need on both computers -- apart from VS -- is the project file(s) (.VSP) plus any incidental files, such as those for background music, voiceovers, flash animations, animated GIFs, still images, that you might have included in the editing (again, if these were not on the external hard drive as well). If you have to transfer such files, you might find that VS prompts you to re-link them, but this is just a matter of pointing the program to where you have transferred them to.
