Newbie Questions

I'm a total newbie at video editing, so I hope you don't laugh too loud at my questions.

I JUST bought a DVD recorder a week ago, and I'd like to edit some of the movies I've recorded and burn them onto DVDs. I downloaded and installed the trial version of DVD Movie Factory last night, and I had a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.

When I went to the Ulead site and tried to download the user manual, I get a message saying "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" because it's an ftp download. Would it be possible for someone to either e-mail it to me or point to an http download?

I started the program to play around with it, but didn't have a clue how to use it and couldn't find any help files or tutorials. I KIND of figured out a few basic things after playing with for a while, but when I saved the project, all I had were mpg's. I saw a message in there somewhere about "some DVD players will not play mpg's". Is that all it does; fancy up the mpgs? How do I turn them into VOBs that I can burn to a DVD?

When you've got it all working, the program automatically takes your video files (be they mpegs, vobs, avis or whatever) and turn them into vobs for you. Then it will burn your "fancied up" videos onto disc and yes it will be able to be played in dvd players.

I don't have a manual, sorry. Keep fiddling, you'll get it. If you output to a hard drive folder and you'll see it does create vob files.

Thanks, htchien. I just started the Jerry Jones tutorial and it looks like what I need. I don't know how to download using ftp, but I found the user's manual included with the download, so I saved a copy of it. Video Editing and authoring looks much harder than I thought it would be; at least in the beginning but at least I have some roadsigns now.
