I've just purchased Ulead VideoStudio 8 and installed it a couple of days ago. Each time I try to capture from my video camera XP freezes and the only way out is a reboot. Any help and guidance is welcome.
The installation seemed to go fine apart from 'indeo' when I got an error saying 'internal error: too many version of Netscape. I will not install the plugin into .......'.
I can capture from the video camera using Windows Movie Maker and also from my Logitec web cam. Also the freeze isn't consistent as is it happens at slightly different times when capturing using the Movie Wizard.
I've applied the four patches as recomended by this forum, e.g. 8.01.
I can't see any errors in the XP event viewer.
Some details:
XP service pack 2;
Mesh AMD 1.01 Ghz;
768MB Ram;
camera is a Sony HandyCam;
Thanks

All I can help you will is the INDEO installation procedure is the
worst I've ever had to work with.
But, you do need a indeo codec to load the sample avi's.
If you interrupt an indeo installation, cancel it or it's fails, the computer
can be left in a bad state.
Can you perform a roll-back of XP?
Hope this helps,

Indeo Codec
When I downloaded the trial version of VS8, I also had a problem in installing the Indeo module.
I went to the Indeo site as directed but found that I would need to purchase the program for $14.95.
Is there another way to go back and re-install the Indeo codec? Or do I need to un-install and then download the whole package again?

Technically you don't need the Indeo Codec to run VS8 for
DV or Mpeg capturing.
You do need it to load the sample avi files from the library.
You can say NO to installing it.
There are probably other variants of the Indeo installation.
Whenever I installed it the program SEARCHES ALL the harddrives
on the machine. Don't understand why it doesn't search just the
system drive. Probably in case programs are installed on other
drives. In my case that takes a very long time to search all my
compressed drives.

I don't know if you've tried it yet.
I would try to re-install VS8 over itself again.
If it prompts to install the indeo codec say no.
It should still be on the machine. It's worth a try.
On my system when the indeo installations failed a few programs
stopped working properly.
I had to restore the backups.
