What is the best way to capture from a DVD disc?

Post by webcombo »

I have a disc that I created in VS10 and then another disc that a client gave me of a slideshow on DVD, that I don't know what it was created on. But are there certain settings that should be used to capture the video that I don't have already on file? What he wants me to do is splice the 2 videos together to make 1 video, and then make 61 of them that he is selling to people. So this really needs to be a perfect lossless (as much as possible) transition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Try using the Import from DVD function to see if you get one long imported mpeg file, or individual *.jpg images -- it will depend on how the slideshow was created by the other person, and how it was authored.

That is the way I tried it, but I got 5 different tracks and every picture is it's own seperate section of the track. It does, however, only give 5 different files, but is this what I want? Or should I be able to make it so it can be 1 file.

Thanks for advance,

Are the 5 different files *.mpg files? What is their duration (in terms of playing time)? What are the properties of the 5 files?

When you imported them, did you put a check at the Chapter, or at the Title level (highest level)?

Yes they are .mpg files. They are various sizes, ranging from 69MB to 201MB. When I play them back in my BSPlayer, or even in WMP, the sound is off, and they are jumpy. But when I play them back on my PowerDVD program, it seems to work just fine. I clicked each of the 5 titles, which then put an automatic checkmark in the subsections. I hope this info helps. The one thing that is very strange is that when the file is named, it is named something like uvs061215_133953~0 Does that make any sense, as all my captured video from MiniDV does not have the ~ at the end. Any thoughts?

My DVD Imports are named the same way (uvs followed by the date then the time etc...). So it looks good to me...

So you should be all set to use them in your project :)

Thanks George. I guess I was doing it right all along. I just wanted to get clarity before I make all 61 copies. Thanks for all your quick replys.
