MSP 8.0 DVD Sound import problem with Dolby 5.1 Sound

Post by mathis »

Hello, I have a DVD that I need to get a couple of scenes off of for an "Advertisment" that I'm making for tomorrow's (Sunday's) announcements at church. We're actually going to show that DVD at church tomorrow night, so I want to put part of it in the morning announcements letting everyone know to be there for the evening service. When I use the DVD Capture option, it tells me that the audio is Dolby 5.1 Channel 1. I click the check mark next to to the chapter I want to import, then click the Dolby 5.1 Channel 1, but when I hit import, it unselects the Dolby 5.1 Channel 1, and imports the chapter, so I obviously didn't need to select it. When I put the chapter in the video track, it plays the video just fine but there is no sound. When I load the mpeg file that I imported in Windows Media Player, it has sound and plays just fine. When I select "DVD Capture plug-in" I can pull the menu down and see the other file-type options, but no matter what I click on, it jumps back to MPG format. Since I am limited on time to do this project, I can import it with my analog device and get it to work, but I would like to know how to make this work for future reference because our Missionary president gave me a stack of DVDs to use in upcoming videos and I would prefer to import them instead of use the analog device because the quality will be better in the import.

Thanks for any help.

It would help muchly if you would tell us more about where the DVD comes from and how it was made. I've never tried importing a 5.1 DVD, but what happens if you set the Capture settings to 2.0?

Thanks for the reply, Devil.
I bought it from Amazon.com. It is distributed by "Inspirational Films" in San Clemente, CA. It just says NTSC format.

I don't see any options for setting Capture settings to 2.0. If I click on Advanced, it shows that Synchronize Video with Audio is checked, but grayed out so that I cannot uncheck it.

Do you realise that forum rules forbid helping copyright infringement because it could be a legal issue? Sorry!

Duh! Sorry. I wasn't thinking about that, since the video is shown around the world. Oh, well. Thanks anyway.
