4.3 to 16.9 conversion

Post by Computernerd »

I have over 40 8mm tapes that were filmed in 4.3 format. I want to convert them to 16.9 format for my widescreen TV. I now have VS 10+ and what is the best way to convert this without chopping off the film on the sides?

Simply put you can't.

Having said that you have various workrounds.
Option one.
Chop away the tops and bottoms of the picture so that you are left with a 16.9 aspect ratio.
Option two.
s t r e t c h the width of the video so that the people in it now appear f a t t e r then they did before.

To achieve either of these effects you can place the video onto an overlay track and resize it.
Alternatively place it onto the video track, change your project settings to 16.9 and then use the crop filter.

Or, to put it in a more direct way than Steve, leave them as they are. 4:3 videos will play just as well on a 16:9 screen in their native format, even if they don't fill the right and left of the screen!

Hi its the top and bottom that gets cropped.
