I've been trawling though the posts here, but I can't find the answer to my question.
I'm using VS8 and I want to be able to produce a 16:9 wmv file for the internet (if it's possible). My original files are 16:9 avi files, and I can create a dvd or avi file in 16:9, but when I try to output to wmv, I can only get it to produce in 4:3.
In fact, the original video clips remain the correct ratio, but I've added coloured backgrounds for transitions and an image or two as well and these revert to the 4:3 format, so the two are mixed in the final output.
I've tried all the usual stuff like setting project settings and using custom output settings, but nothing seems to work.
Is there a way to do this to create a file this way?
Thanks
Richard.
Can I output a wmv file in 16:9 aspect ratio

Have you tried rendering your project, to the same format (DV/avi) then using Windows Media Encoder? I don't have any 16:9 video to try this with, I always shoot 4:3.
I did notice with VS8, the only way to set your project settings to 16:9, was to use DV type 2, or NTSC DVD. All the other codecs, prevented the aspect ratio from being changed, however it they did default to Source Frame size.
