File Format mismatch - Can't add music from iTunes

Post by AndrewR »

I'm a newbie who is making a video of my grandpa who is passing away. When I try to add music from iTunes an error message comes up saying "Unable to open file. File Format mismatch." How can I add music from iTunes? What's the best way to add music bought from the internet?

I have VideoStudio 10 and Windows XP.

Thanks for your reply.

Songs purchased from iTunes are copy protected! Here in the USA it is OK to make analog (digital-to-analog-to-digital) recording. However, it is illegal to use software that can "crack" the digital copy protection.

There are some instructions on the GoldWave website that tell you how to record "What-U-Hear" from the PC's speakers. You don't need GoldWave. Any analog recording software will work, including Audacity (FREE!!!).

I've never tried it, but there is also a program called SoundTaxi. I think it uses your soundcard's A/D and D/A converters simplify and automate an "analog" recording. If I'm correct, then this software is legal... If it cracks the DRM (Digital Rights Managment), it's illegal.

Would this be considered illegal :

Burn the song to a CD (cd-rw will work, so you can reuse it).

Use software such as musicmatch to record the cd to your computer,
in either WAV or mp3.

THEN.... VS will accept the song...

That is exactly what I have done in the same situation.

:D Wow! Thanks DVDDoug for the link for SoundTaxi. The software works great as it can convert multiple songs from m4p to the more usable mp3 at one time. It's a great $15 investment. Thanks for the tip! :P
