If its a commercial DVD its no doubt copy protected.
If your making a copy of your own then the procedure is outlined here

The suggested link does not help with error message. I have successfully imported DVD content made with my old DVD recorder but now content made by my new one (LG DR175) produces the same error message. Has anybody got a clue what causes this?

 Lots of users are having trouble importing some DVDs (or DVDs from some cameras/recorders).

First, make sure the DVD is finalized or closed. DVD recorders and DVD cameras use a slightly different format (DVD-VR) that allows you to stop recording, and than add more video later. (I don't know if the VR format is contributing to the problem.... it's just a guess.)

You can also try using a free program called VOB 2 MPG.
