Generic Error has occurred ... during creation of DVD

Post by sdgamester »

Version 10 Plus - I have a Dell laptop with a Dual Layer Sony Q58A DVD writer in it (With Dell Label). I have created a DVD 100% no problems but lately every DVD I create gets a 'generic error' # 534:-2147216288:0 - I've reinstlled the application the patches, the update for the drives. I can do all the editing, playback, not an issue. I just can't create a DVD. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you, Steve

I don't recall ever seeing a 'generic error' generated by Video Studio since VS7, and the code number structure you give does not appear to follow the Video Studio/Ulead type.

Does the burner drive work with other programs or do you get that same message when the burner is used with other programs?

I have used it for data backups, copying DVD's, Copying CD's, creating music CD's. I use Roxio Media Creator 8. I have used VS10 Plus to create a DVD and it worked fine. That was about a week or so ago. Now it seems every DVD I try give's this error.

The Roxio suite contains a packet-writing module whose name I forget (I don't have it on my computer). It is the one which allows you to drag and drop files on the burner icon which can be cumulatively burned to disc. This module is known to sometimes cause problems since it in effect takes over the burner and denies access to it for other programs such as Video Studio. As I understand it, that module will allow itself to be internally disabled while you burn with other programs.

Ken,
I wanted to say thank you. I removed the Roxio Drag to Disk from my system. I never use that option. Once I did that I was able to create DVD's again without error. Nice call.
