You only get that sort of message if Video Studio does not recognise the file(s) you are trying to burn as being DVD-compliant, and thus needing to be converted. What are the exact properties of those files? Right click on one of them within Video Studio (a file either in the library pane or in the timeline) and copy down its properties here.
Quite often, capture devices may capture in a frame size which is not DVD-compliant (e.g. 640 x 480 instead of 720 or 704 x 480), but there can be a variety of other possibilities. We will only be able to tell when we see the file properties.

Hi Ken, I'll be a little more specific now that I am at home.
I generated what should be DVD-compliant MPEG-2 files from MOTV 3. As you suggested, here are the media clip properties of one of the files:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Do not convert compliant files is checked
When I get to the burn step, the message comes up "This action will take some time to render" I then click OK, the status says "converting menu" and then the error "Convert step got some problems" comes up then.

Can you burn the project if you do not include a menu? If so, then, as Ken has suggested, there is something in that menu that is trying to be converted. I was getting that error and found that if I unchecked Auto Fade Out First Play To Menu it solved my problem. Your problem may be different (motion menu, music, etc.)

I've had trouble with that option, also. I think that the way the VS has to fade the menu into the movies actually causes it to re-render the movie clip even though the original was compliant. It it basically adding a cross-fade transition between the menu video and the other videos that comprise the DVD.Black Lab wrote:I was getting that error and found that if I unchecked Auto Fade Out First Play To Menu it solved my problem.

I am having the same issue burning my MPEG2 video file on a DVD when I try to design a DVD menu. When I do not add menus it burns the project fine, but when I add a menu and try burn I am getting the same exact message "Convert Step Has Some Issues".So apparently it has something to do with the add menu feature..I have already installed VS SP1, and still does not work. Any other suggestions?

There have been a few posts lately regarding this same issue. In most cases the project burns fine when not using a menu, but inclusion of a menu causes the dreaded Convert Step error. As Ken has pointed out, this is due to something in the menu not being recognized and, therefore, a conversion process is being attempted.
In my earlier example I had the Fade Out First Play To Menu selected when I got the error. Deselecting that solved my problem. In another thread Steve mentioned he had moved some buttons on his menu and they were overlapping, which caused his problem. Once he moved the buttons he was able to burn.
The point is, this problem apparently is not specific. Any number of things can cause you to get the Convert Step error when using a menu. I'm sorry to say that trial and error may be the only way to solve this problem.
