project size seems too large

Post by boonie »

Nature of the problem

I have searched the forum and found similar situations, but I could not find a solution. It seems that when burning to disk, the bar at the bottom that shows the size of the project is overstated based on what is reasonable. I have experienced this before, when I knew the project should fit on a 4.7 DVD but the colored bar on the burn DVD screen showed it was too large. Previously, I could resave the .VSP file, try it again, and the size would be corrected to something reasonable. I assumed it was a hang up when having lots of clips in the project that had not been edited yet to fit in the time frame, and after editing something needed to be "reset". But it isn't working this time. My MPEG 2 video clips add up to 5,147,580 kb, which I do realize is too large. But the bar at the bottom of the create disc interface screen is showing 12.10 GB (11.27) GB 2 hr 47 min 56 sec. The time is correct, but the size doesn't make sense to me. I should be able to get 2 hrs 47 min of pretty good video on a regular DVD.

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)

They were captured from a DVR, just analog audio and video. I used a capture rate that said approximately 1.5 GB for 1 hour DVD video.

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
ADS DVDXpress DX2, connected with RCA audio input and S-video.

You will not fit close to 3 hours of video onto a SL DVD at a bitrate of VBR 6000.
