Videostudio 10 (Try Before you Buy) - Can't Patch SP1

Post by mrdisco »

No idea why this is happening, but it's currently stopping me from purchasing the software. Help me fix this, and they have a sale.

I've installed uvs10_tbyb_(e)_na.exe - Video Studio 10 - downloaded as of 12/8/2006. I also grabed the SP1 patch associated with the TBYB (try before you buy) file named - UVS10_SP1_5in1_tbyb.exe

The main program installs and works fine on the machine; I see no problems at all - other then the fact without the SP1 patch - my Intel 6400 Core Duo isn't being used correctly.

Every attempt I've tried to run the SP1 results in:

"Installer can not find Ulead VideoStudio 10 on your machine. Please install Ulead Videostudio 10 First."

SIDE NOTE: I've used the same 2 files and installed them successfully on my server which is an AMD Dual Core 4200 to make sure they were okay - they aren't corrupt or any issues with those.

Things I've tried to get it to work;

1. Uninstalled, and Reinstalled - No go.
2. Installed on a different windows user/profile - No go.
3. Went though the registry and cleared out anything to do with Ulead. No go.

Everything always comes back the same message that I don't have Ulead Videostudio 10 installed - when i most defiantly do; The program is installed but SP1 can't find it to install it's patch.

I can't see buying the program if the same situation is going to happen on the registered version.

Thank you for anyone that can help me.

I'm about to give up completely on this, but I found this funny.

Running the VideoStudio 10 (Non-patched SP1) in the background - I attempted to run the SP1 patch.

"Ulead Videostudio is currently running in the background. Please close the application first and try again."

and when it's closed...

"Installer can not find Ulead VideoStudio 10 on your machine. Please install Ulead Videostudio 10 First."

I'll still hold out hope that someone knows why this is happening; otherwise I saved myself $99 bucks!

You can't patch the TBYB version.

 Are you sure?!?!

Why is there 2 patches then....

Ulead VideoStudio 10 Service Pack 1 (For TBYB)
http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/VideoS ... _SP1_E.exe

and

Ulead VideoStudio 10 Service Pack 1
http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/VideoS ... 1_tbyb.exe

---

Also Why did the patch work fine when i tested it on my AMD dual core 4200 server I "MENTIONED" in the above message? I'm having issues applying it to my video workstation which is a Intel Core 2 Duo 6400.

This seems to be a problem with the TBYB SP1 patch. I done a search of the forum, and found a few other posts regarding this. However no one posted what the remedy was, short of they had contacted Ulead Tech Support by phone, and they had purchased the Unlock key for the TBYB version. That's a totally different then your situation.

Are you installing to the default directory, or another drive? It may have a problem, finding the program, if it (SP1) is hardcoded to look only in the Root drive (C:\).

Since this works on your server, there is something specific to your editing machine that is keeping the SP1 patch from seeing the program. Try creating another User Profile, that has Admin privileges. Then try installing under that profile. This is of course after doing a complete, clean uninstall, getting rid of all traces of Ulead.

I don't know if this will work or not, but make sure every thing running in the background is disabled before installing. Then try exempting the installer for the SP1 patch from DEP. Generally when DEP is involved, the program/installer, just will not launch or will be terminated.

What OS are you running your Intel on? If Windows XP, do you have SP2 installed?

Okay, now to add more insanity -

I went back to try and do things on my server which did patch with the TBYB SP1 patch - and all of a sudden it just stopped working or loading. So maybe it's entirely true - You need to purchase the "Try Before you Buy" software to have it function correctly. Kinda lame if your wanting to see how it performs on a dual-core system...

In any event; I uninstalled both copies on both systems and reinstalled them in trialware more without patching.

I set them both up to do a similar job; Converting some DivX Home Movies to DVD; 2 hours long.

My AMD server which runs are 2.2ghz duel core; was destroying the Intel Core Duo (6400 running overlocked at 3.2ghz) in terms of performance.

My Intel process was offloading all the work to one CPU, leaving the other untouched, it reached 4% of the conversion in about 28-30mins while the AMD - slower system (both cores seemed to be used tho on an unpatched version of the software) reached the same point of 4% in about 4-5 mins.

Does this SP1 patch truely fixes the intel core duo support? If it does, I'd be happy to buy the product - but since i can't see it - due to patching issues... it's hard for me to justify things.

Mr Disco,
I use the original, unpatched VS10+ and it does everything that I have needed with no problems. Some of the patches add support for specific capture devices, etc. which are not required unless you have those devices. My advice is to forget about the patches and spend your time learning how to use Video Studio to edit video. :D You will have plenty of challenges here. Follow the link below for some more introductory advice.

I'm extremely concerned with performance. The patch SP1 is important due to this;

"Optimization for Intel® Core™ 2 Duo CPU
VideoStudio 10 Plus is now optimized for Intel® Core™ Duo 2 and Core™ 2 Extreme processors. With the new processors, you can experience up to 50% faster video transcoding and rendering of video projects."

I'm going chance the purchase; I just really hope this patch actually does work as it states.

Hi-
When you purchase the program, do not purchase through the trial version's welcome "Buy" button. You may want to even uninstall the trial version first. The problem is that, unless they have solved the problem, the patch does not recognize the downloaded and paid for TBYB version as a legitimate copy and "locks up" the program.

Customer service was very helpful when I had this problem and directed me to a FTP site where i could download a full version and the patch then installed correctly.
