I would like to start and end a slide show with an effect such as a theater curtain opening and closing. Does anyone know how I might achieve this? I read a post that said there was a short video in VS8 like this but I don't see it in VS10+. I have the lite version of COOL 3D but have no idea where to start.
Any suggestions?

Thank you, Ron, for your help. It is just what I had in mind. Now I want to see if I can get the black background to be transparent so the first scene will gradually appear as the curtain rises. I intend to dig into the manual and try some things before I ask for additional help.
Steve, I took a look at your instructions but I think we have different sample video clips. You started with V01 but my V01 is a computer monitor with a countdown. Is this correct?
Thanks again, to all of your for your help.

Curtains opening/closing sequence: VS10
This is a modification of the curtains opening sequence found in VS9.
Here is a vsp file and the relevant source material.
My interpretation of a video in the background with the curtains in the foreground opening. At the end of the video the curtains close again.
http://media8.filewind.com/g.php?filepath=829
It consists of 3 parts - all on the overlay track.
1. Curtains Opening.
2. Opened curtain in the border. This is a still image so simply adjust it to the required length.
3. Curtains Closing.

I have altered the above link for the curtain opening sequence.
After sleeping on it I went about it a slightly different way and the new link is a big improvement on the original.
To achieve the transparency of the curtain background I used MediaStudio Pro and PhotoImpact. I intend to make the procedure a separate tutorial as soon as I get the chance as the procedure I used can be adopted for a wide variety of effects.
This would include blurring of a part of the picture such as a face or number plate, highlighting something such as putting a circle around it or pointing an arrow at something.
Here is a demo of the effect:
