Importing from DVD Camcorder to Hard Drive

Post by dbob4344 »

I recently purchased a new Samsung DVD+R/RW camcorder that records directly to mini DVD +R/RW. I am using video studio version 9. I followed the instructions to import the files from the DVD to the hard drive for editing. When I import from the DVD and do all my editing I get the video but no sound. The import feature creates an *.mpg file and is saved in MyDocs\Ulead v.9 SE folder. When I explore to the folder where the mpg file is located, it shuts down explorer and takes me back to my desktop. I have reinstalled the software and went in to dos and/or safe mode and deleted every file folder and get the same result. I do not know what else to do!!!

PC: EMachines
Model: S2485

HDD: 160 gb
Video Card: NVIDIA
Memory: 1 gb
DVD+R drive: NEC

Welcome to the forums..

What are the properties, including the audio properties, of your video files? Right-click on one of the imported files, select properties, and post them here.

What audio format does your camera record to?

If I try to right click on the files I get kicked out of explorer and I am taken back to my desktop. The video is NTSC. I looked in the manual and could not find anything on type of audio file. I looked on the mini DVD+RW and two folders are created- VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM. The problem may be the VideoStudio 9 supports DVD-VR and I am using actual DVD+R/RW discs? I loaded the patches but that does not seem to help either.

IMO, you have a corrupt .dll somewhere in your computer. I have experienced the mysterious windows explorer crash when mousing on AVI files last year until I rolled back the computer to before I downloaded some bad software. Sorry, but I don't remember what the software was.

If you have recently downloaded some freebies, try to restore your system to a date prior and see if that helps the situation.

The problem is more likely to be that you have VS9 SE -- with the SE meaning that it will not play Dolby AC-3 audio. And of course, your camera uses Dolby for its audio. Hence, when you try to open a file from the mini-DVD, you don't get any audio in VS9. Can you confirm whether it is an SE version or not?

And a note of clarification: when Vidoman suggested you right click on one of the imported files, he meant that you should do so within Video Studio, when the file is either in the library pane or in the timeline. That will tell you whether you have AC-3 audio on it.
