Help, I'm Confused About HD DVD Burning

Post by robgold »

I have a Sony HC3 and am interested in getting an HD DVD burner but am very unclear about VideoStudio 10 Plus' HD DVD burning capabilities. The manual and Ulead's website seems to indicate that VideoStudio 10 Plus can burn an HD DVD, but I also found a link on Ulead's website that indicates it is only HD DVD "ready" and I will need a "burning pack" that is not yet available. Does that mean I am out of luck until this burning pack is available? (I know I can burn to regular DVD's but want to take advantage of the larger capacities of HD DVD's. Also, does anyone know if Blu-Ray burning will ever be available for VideoStudio? Thanks for any information!

J.C. Hunter wrote a tutorial on HD Video Editing with VS10+, you can read it here: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872

Thanks for the link. I have seen that tutorial and it is really good. However, my question is a little different. I was hoping to find out if I can burn directly to a HD DVD. That tutorial describes how to burn HD video to a standard DVD using DIVx. I did not see any reference in the tutorial as to how to burn to an HD DVD disc. Is burning to an HD DVD disc not available for VideoStudio?

It's entirely possible to create a REAL hd-dvd on standard 4.7/8.5 gig disks with any standard burner for playback in the Toshiba player. And no... this is not divx. What I mean by REAL is that they come out similar to sd dvd's, with chapters, menus..etc, but instead of having a video_ts folder, they have a HD DVD_TS folder and instead of that folder containing VOB files, they contain EVO files. The down side to this is that you can only get about 54 minutes on a DL disk at 19000k. At the full 25000k you're good for about 40 minutes, but you won't see a noticable difference from 25000 to 19000. 54 minutes is however good enough for home movies though (for me anyway)

You must have the Tosh player though, because after the burn, they will no longer be recognized by a normal burner/player. For all intents and purposes, they are REAL hd-dvd's and standard equipment will not play hd-dvd. I have made about 15 of these disks now and they work quite well

But as far as burning to actual HD-dvd disks... you first must have a hd-dvd burner... and to the best of my knowledge... they don't exist yet.
