VS10+ will not import DVD files

Post by wally097 »

If I attempt to import directly from the DVD, the import always hangs up at exactly 64% complete no matter which DVD I try. The DVD's were made on a SONY DVR as read once and are not copy protected.

I copied the files to my hard disk using both DVDCopy and a freeware program. Both worked fine. I tried to import the DVD folder into VS10+. It reports "Failed to read DVD Informat Report ID 0x800040901(2305)" with either copy.

I have patched the program with SP1. I have replaced LXDVDParser.dll with another version from the tech consultants. No help.

I can view the contents of the DVD fine with Windows Media Player or WINDVD. Same for the files that were copied to the hard disk. VS10 just will not import them.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem importing DVD

I.'m having a similar problem. I've created DVD +R and DVD +RW from old home VHS tapes on a Panasonic DVD/VCR unit. When I mport into VideoStudio the Parsing windows stops at 64% and CPU goes to 100% and stays there. I am able to import a DVD -R created on a Sony. My Panasonic DMR-ES45V manual states that for -R and -RW it creates DVD-Video format and for +R and +RW it creates +VR recording format. To test that VideoStdio cannot support the +VR format I will be copying VHS to both Disk types and see if the +R fails and the -R works.

I had a similar problem with VS9, when trying to import DVDs created by a standalone recorder. The problem existed both when trying to import direct from the DVD, and when I copied the DVD to my hard drive first.

Get hold of a small (free) utility called FixVTS. Copy the DVD to your hard drive (eg using windows explorer) and then run it through FixVTS. Then import it into VS.

It worked for me, and I haven't had any problems since.

Hope this helps!

Problems with importing from video from DVD - Parsing fails

Post by marky1@tesco.net »

I have exactly the sample problem with VS10+ when I tried to import DVD from a disc created by my Canon DC95 DVD camcorder. In addition, I experienced exactly the same problem in Movie Factory 5; I'm assuming the code in both of these applications is the same - at least the GUIs look identical. I can import the VOB files directly into VS10+ but the sound is all distorted and has horrible clipping too.

I can offer some good news to those who may also have DVD Workshop 2 for DVD authoring. This application also allows one to import from DVD. This had no problems importing my DVD video. However, it did not appear to retain the 16:9 aspect. Fortunately, DVD Workshop creates individual MPEG files from the 'scenes' that it detected (or are user defined) in the original DVD film. Amazingly, if one imports these MPEG files directly into VS10+, the aspect is correctly displayed and the sound is fine. What I can't offer, is an explanation for this.

ULEAD tech support have initially suggested that I re-install etc. Since I have a solution at hand, I am going to refrain from doing this at the moment, but clearly for anyone who is using VS10+ as their sole application for video work, a more radical solution is required. I hope that this info might help others using both VS10+ and DVD Workshop 2.

That little program worked. I recommend it to anyone else with the same problem.

Thanks Adrian
