TBYB w/a "Limited User".

Post by angrykeyboarder »

I just downloaded and installed the TBYB version of PhotoImpact 12.

Upon launching it I'm presented with this dialogue box:

Image

This is completely insane. Granted most Windows users have no clue about Administrator vs. User accounts and therefore always have administrative privileges, but that doesn't excuse Ulead from doing things the right way.

I do things the right way and this is nuts. It prevents me from trying PI 11 unless I run it under my Administrator account (an account I almost never log in to) OR to "run as administrator" from my user account.

In the latter case, it's messy when saving images as it wants to save them in the Administrators folders by default.

Not only is that awkward, it's just wrong.

PLEASE fix this. It's inexcusable. I've not run into this with other TBYB software.

I currently own PI 11 and like it, but it doesn't run right under Vista. I didn't experience this problem with PI 12, save for the limited user issue.

So please, fix this. I have no interest in buying PI 12 without trying it out first. The trial version of Paint Shop Pro XI doesn't give me this trouble.

Where do you intend to buy PI 11? It is no longer available for download. The current version is PI 12.

Not that that has any bearing on your problem. I see where you are coming from but you are barking up the wrong tree. We are not ULEAD, just a bunch of users trying to help other, less experienced users.

Send a complaint to ULEAD customer service, not tech support.

Oops. I meant PI 12.

I didn't know what else to do.

They don't publish an email address and the web forms only accept support request for registered products.

They dropped the ball on that one too.

That is for technical support. In order to download the trial you must have been asked to register with them as a member. Log on to that account and contact customer support.

You can turn off the User Account Control in Windows Vista to see if it helps. To turn off UAC, select Control Panel->User Accounts and select Turn User Account Control on or off, uncheck the Use UAC to protect your computer option and then clicks on OK.

For Ulead's updates on Windows Vista, you can keep an eye on the following page:

http://www.ulead.com/spotlight/vista/runme.htm

Ulead will announce any updates for Vista compatibility in that page.

For any feedbacks on PI, you can submit through the following page:

Hope this helps.
