clueless noob can't download

Post by zhuk »

hiya...new to the forums...and just about everything

I have one question - don't know if this is the right thread to post but my search came up with nothing helpful- in the Ulead main site FAQ there is this Q&A:
Q: My Internet transmission quality is very average and the file size of Ulead products is too large for me to download. How can I download the file?

A: Ulead does its best to keep the file sizes to an absolute minimum. If you are experiencing problem downloading however, please try using a ftp client program that supports resume downloading, such as CuteFTP or Gozilla to connect to Ulead's ftp site. Since both the ftp site and the ftp client program support resume downloading, the ftp client will always download files from where it was disconnected the last time.

I am on pathetic dialup :( and just purchased MovieFactory 5 Plus....no hope of the using the email download link @ 10hrs+ lol...does anyone know where this Ulead ftp site mentioned above is??

Needless to say I have no idea about ftp files either or how they work  tryin to make some sense of what to do before my download limit runs out...any suggestions?

Sorry for the complete cluelessness :P

You should try to use a download manager, like the one Steve suggests. However since you have Dial-up, then even using a download manager will not speed up the process, 56K is 56K regardless.

Do you have a friend or relative that has some form of broadband (Cable, DSL, Satellite)? If so see if they would download all the files and burn them onto a disc for you. With dial-up access, I would recommend purchasing the full box versions only. With downloading such large files on a dial-up, there is too much risk of the files being corrupt. You might try contacting Element5 and/or Ulead to see if you could change your purchase from the downloaded version to a full box.

^^Unfortunately no, I know of no one who can afford (what passes for) broadband in this country :(

I recieved an automated email from Ulead to my query asking me to contact the publisher directly for such problems...but i'm leaning to your advice about trying to obtain the full version....serves me right for trying to save some $ with our ridiculous exchange rate, huh lol

I'll see if I can contact them re that. Thanks very much for all the assistance...I really appreciate it :)

Well, whilst it is expensive, there are people who do have broadband :D and are willing to help a less fortunate fellow aussie. If you are prepared to trust me on that one and are willing to pay for the disk and the postage, let me have your download link (by pm only, don't post it here) and I will download it for you. I did it recently and, even on cable had nothing but problems. With the aid of the download manager Steve suggested I succeeded and it didn't even take long. My download limit is large enough not to worry about an additional download.
