Put both of them on the storyboard and save to a new file.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you simply want the clips to be "merged" then having them side by side in the timeline will accomplish that. What are you trying to do?

Hi

Just to expand on Guy.

With your clips in the timeline

Share--Create Video File

Select Same as First Video Clip

This will render all the project and everything in the timelines to a new file.
Using the same properties as the first clip.

Hi trevor andrew, thanks for your reply. The method you mentioned does the job but takes significant time to render, I was looking for a way to simply join 2 or more AVI files, the same way as we cut them, without rendering.

What I Am Trying To Do?

This is how I am doing my projects:
1. Capture my videos from my camcorder using "Split By scene", this creates large number of AVI files some are OK, some needs to be cleaned from shaky moves, etc. Any how, ultimately I get large number of AVI files.

I want to join the files related to one occassion, so that I can:
a. Create Chapters
b. Give transition effects &
c. Titles

Seperately before every joined AVI file.

I hope I have mentioned clearly what I want to do. I don't know but there may be a better way of doing just that.

There isn't a way to join the clips as in the reverse of cutting them. The only way to take separate clips and combine them is to render them to a new file.

Hi

I am not sure I understand your problem, it seems like a normal editing process.

You use captured files and cut the bad parts, add transitions, titles, audio etc.
This produces a complete Video Project. (that was the hard part)

Now you create a video file from that project.
Share--Create Video File.

There are several templates to choose from.

Selecting Pal/Ntsc-DVD-- to create a file for burning.

This renders the project to a compliant Mpeg file suitable for burning.
It takes a long time (2.5 times the length)

Use the video file to burn a disc.

As Guy said
¡¥It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you simply want the clips to be "merged" then having them side by side in the timeline will accomplish that.

Hope this helps

Lots of people want to know

Post by OregonJohn »

Lots of people want to know how to join two clips. Lots of other people have answers that don't really satisfy.

It seems the fact is that intuition says if you can split a scene you can join one. Video Studio does not allow joining scenes in the same way they can be split. That is the simple truth of the matter.

I can accomplish this but it is bothersome and, to my mind, ridiculous. If so many people, myself included, want a feature like this why doesn't it appear? You want in intuitive product, you listen to what people want and do that...not argue with the customer that they must have it all wrong.

Argggggg...can't even get a simple "it can't be done that way" even thought that is the fact of the matter (apparently).

Welcome to the forums OregonJohn,

First please understand that while this web board is hosted by Corel, it is not staffed by them. We are all just product users unlike yourself. Second, they very seldom monitor anything except the Wishlist for Future Versions and any forum that they may create You're Input Please:VideoStudio Pro? .

If you read a few posts up...

That was answered.

Now I'm sure that several of us agree with you, that we should be able to join them just as easy as they are split. Please post your "feature/function request" in the "Wishlist" forum, the link is provided above. Just click on it to be taken to that forum. Hopefully it will get inlcuded in the next release or maybe the one after that, or the following. One function that I and others desire to be included with VS, is the ability to use Transitions and Cut clips in the Overlay tracks. These requests were made a couple of versions ago. As you can see with VS11+, the ability to cut the clips in overlay tracks was finally added. We still wait for the transitions.

I left a suggestion on one of the other threads that I thought would help. After realizing it won't satisfy you I tried to delete it but I can't so I will offer my response here.

That is correct.

Maybe one of the fine NLE's made by Adobe or Pinnacle would better suit your needs.

It can't be done that way.

What I can't understand is why anyone would come to a users board that is being monitored by dedicated people trying to help and immediately go on the attack. Maybe you can answer that.

Think of it like this. You are using good old fashioned film - the stuff that goes into a projector and you watch on a screen.

To get rid of bits you take hold of a pair of scissors.
To join bits together you use a pot of glue.

Why

"What I can't understand is why anyone would come to a users board that is being monitored by dedicated people trying to help and immediately go on the attack. Maybe you can answer that."

I can. First, let me apologize for my rash and rude behavior. I assumed that the staff at Corel/Ulead were monitoring and answering questions here. I assumed that primarily because there didn't seem to be any other easy way to get answers to my questions (maybe there are, I just didn't see them). However, that is no excuse...I shouldn't be rash and rude to staff either.

That said, I really appreciate that you said "you can't do it that way" because if I had read that in any of the other posts I would have been satisfied. Now I am. You have done me a great favor and I appreciate it. Thank you.

I certainly understand your frustration, I am a new user and have had plenty. One thing I am sure of, if there is an answer to be had you will eventually find it here. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of honey.

A warm Aloha from Hawaii.
