VideoStudio Wish List for Future Versions

Post by Phil S »

Is there a thread anywhere on here (I've had a look round but can't see one) that users can suggest new facilities in any possible next version of VS. ie.. VS11.

I would suspect that the developers of this program look on here from time to time.

I'll start with three that I've wanted but aren't there:

1. The ability to expand the timeline when more than 1 overlay track is used so that you can see all tracks together and therefore syncronise them more easily.

2. The ability to put the overlay tracks "to the back" of the main video thus making them overlay or underlay tracks.

3. A second title track.

No reason why we shouldn't have a wish list. Every so often I have contact with a Ulead employee or software engineer regarding new versions. It is always handy if I can point them to a thread such as this.
Please keep any suggestions sensible - plus this is not a place to complain about what YOU may consider to be bugs or faults. Those items should be placed in a new thread or tagged onto an exisiting one dealing with that same issue.

It's called MediaStudio Pro

Hi Phil

Yes

Someone started a thread a few weeks after the launch of VS10.

I would like the ability to select my favourite transitions, Then being able to use either random or in order.

Random being random and not Uleads interpretation of the word.

I agree whole heartedly with Jeff - I "broke" out of the VS upgrade cycle and switched to MSP 8 and haven't regretted it (not that it was easy to learn after using VS 8 and 9!). My analysis of Uleads (apparent) marketing strategy is that they dangle new versions of VS with features already in MSP and reap the rewards of all those users upgrading - the price (for me) of upgrading from VS 6 (SE) -> VS 8 -> VS 9 and then VS 10 (which I didn't do :-)) would have cost me the same price as upgrading from MSP 7 (VE) (obtained from the front cover of a computer magazine - the upgrade price is cheaper :-)) to MSP 8. This way I got all the features++ in one go instead of waiting for development cycles and buggy releases and continually higher upgrade prices (the VS 10 upgrade is more than the VS 8 and VS 9 were).

I still use my VS 9 but MSP has all the other features when I need them :-)

Just something for you to consider :-)

Hi,

Regarding the request for a "Second Title Track." This might not fully address your requirement, but there's a feature of the Title Track that often gets overlooked.

The Title Track can have multiple titles -- each with their own alignment and animation.

Just double-click to add another Title to the same Title track. Do it again if you need a 3rd Title in that same Title track, and so on... When you need to edit one of the Titles, select it, then modify its orientation and/or animation options :)

George

Also, I'm sure v11 is already in the works, and posting any"wants" is probably too late. You'll have to wait for v12.

Peter, I'm leaning toward the same move you made. I've been trialing MSP and, while it is much different than VS, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out (no disrespect intended to rocket scientists).

I think it would depend on the complexity of the request. So it is possible that some requests could make it into the next release...

I have no "new" requests, but a few things I'd like to see fixed. For one, the constant jumping back to the default library is annoying. A library should remain active until another one is selected by the user, regardless of what else you do in your project. Also, one should be able to insert items directly into the timeline instead of having to fetch them from the beginning or end and drag them over. You should be able to place the progress bar where you want the item to be, and the insert command should put it right there. Captures should be able to be named anything the user wants. The current VS convention of naming captures is not intuitive and complicates what should be an easy task.

More to come.

Ulead faces the increasing competition of MAGIX 2007+, and they must offer new fonctions to avoid customer moving to another (cheap) software...

My wish list is:

-much more functions related to Picture in Picture: UVS is not at the right level in this domain...

-quicker encoding at highest quality

-additional text tracks

This is probably undo able but here goes anyway.

The most annoying feature of VS in my opinion is the deletion of adjacent transitions when working nearby.

I have found work arounds, like splitting the adjoining clips in random spots ahead of time if you know where you want to use a transition so the transitions you painstakingly time wont have to be redone. This makes the clips non adjoining but this is a pain. You can't always predict where you want a transition ahead of time after all.

Other programs have done this. Of course they have their own weak points but this is a wish list thread after all.

Also I second the favorite transition list with random batch insertion ability for slide shows.

Simple matter of physics.
Take two pieces of film and overlap them - you have a transition.
In its simplest form that would be a crossfade.
Remove one of those pieces of film and the overlap no longer exists.

Wish List

Previous to purchasing Ulead VS 10+, I tried out quite a few other similar programs in the same price range. Video Studio was the best, but there are some improvements that it could incorporate that would really make it stand out against its competitors.

1. Ability to add some text to dvd menus at the Create disc stage, ie "Play all" next to arrow graphic, etc. Had I realized how much I would've needed PhotoImpact at the time, I probably would've bought the package, but some more flexibility here would be nice.

2. Estimate of file size for each share or export choice prior to rendering. Even the little program Windows Movie Maker does this as does Pinnacle.

3. When in the Ripple editing mode, there is no reason to lose an entire audio track section when deleting one little clip or photo still. With ripple editing on, the length of the audio clip could shorten to compensate for the deleted clips, so that you don't have to move all the audio clips over.... just as it lengthens when you insert a clip into the timeline.

4. I agree with metmot regarding the transitions. In some other programs, when deleting a clip, the adjacent transition effects then "work with" the clips that are now adjacent to them.

5. The ability to copy and paste directly into the timeline, be it customized effects or transitions, clips or stills.

6. Needs a better video stabilization filter.

7. Multi-trim function is awesome, however, would like the ability to rework a clip and go back into multi-trim exactly where I left off before to fine tune, without having to redo all that work all over again.

8. Yes, title and overlay transitions

9. While Ulead VS stands out in many areas, such as the panning and zooming controls, and stability, etc., one area that it is weaker is the selection of special transition effects. While one may argue that the better video would be more subtle with crossfades, etc., it would still be nice to have more fancy stuff at the end or at special moments. I particularly would like something like a balloon, bouncing ball, bird, etc. to end the video. I've used the paper airplane effect to "fly it away", but more choices along those lines would be nice. I gave up the "Hollywood FX" for stability (oh, those crashes!), but....

10. A real minor thing, but annoying.... those tiny arrows on the bottom of the timeline. Make them bigger and put one on each side of the timeline.

11. Lastly, fix those bugs in the create disc step. I follow the "recommended procedures", but I still get weird things happening (like no audio when watching the DVD on the computer, but ok on the TV). I guess that's a settings issue and doesn't belong here.

12. All and all, an excellent product, one that I recommend to everyone and anyone. Thanks for listening. :D

I'd like to have faster encoding engine, and higher bit rates like nero.
