How to remove 'yellow spiral' behind moving menu text?
I'm using DMDF5 to create a simple one-clip DVD with default motion menu options. I inserted two lines of text as the Title and Subtitle.
But everytime I've tried it (and I've now redone it a few times) there is a yellow spiral superimposed on the start of the second text line.
At first I thought it was some kind of bug, or generated by some hidden text characters. However when I allowed the software to create an ISO file and played it, I found that a mouseover on that spiral area produced a hand and clicking on it began the playback.
The opening menu also has a single 'forward arrow' for playback and that works too. Also in 'Preview' mode, if I place my mouse arrow over the 'forward button' this 'yellow spiral' disappears.
But this 'yellow spiral' spoils the aesthetics of the moving menu and text. Anyone know what it is and how I can remove it?
Thanks,

It's the indicator of which menu item is currently selected - essential for DVD playback on a TV screen, where of course you have no cursor to indicate selection location.pipkato wrote:... this 'yellow spiral' spoils the aesthetics of the moving menu and text. So you can't (shouldn't!) remove it. It's a fixed part of the menu template. If you find it aesthetically unattractive, choose another template - and be prepared for other aesthetically unattractive selection indicators!

Hello, and thanks to those who replied.
My issue about 'aesthetics' is not so much about the yellow spiral. It could be a star or a flashing button. It's just that it sits right across the text that is telling the viewer what the programme is. It appears to be tied to the first character of the second line of the default layout.
I did find a workaround of sorts. At first I tried inserting spaces ahead of my title text but DVDMF5 ignored them and the spiral continued to sit on the text and make it unreadable. Eventually I used '...' ahead of my text and now it's at least readable with a '...' and a superimposed spiral ahead of the text.
I would be happy if I could place the 'spiral' anywhere else except over the title. I don't fully understand the point about the TV screen. As I explained, this is a single-clip DVD, and there is a 'Play' arrow on the same screen which can be selected, and hitting 'Play' on my DVD player remote will play the main programme anyway. So it seems to me to be a bug - maybe useful in a multi-clip screen to indicate the selected clip, but of no value on a single-clip DVD.
BTW I understood that the 'hand' was about selection - I mentioned it to suggest that it was obviously a 'selection area', before I confirmed that it was not just some weird character I'd managed to overlay over my text.
No matter what, I still don't understand why an indication of any kind has to sit on top of the text and spoil the explanatory text of an opening screen.

If you have a single-clip DVD, why not select another template (say, 05_SceB01) and hide both thumbnail and text, so that you just have the 'Play' button? If you don't like the background, you can change it. If you don't like the button, change that, too.pipkato wrote:... this is a single-clip DVD, and there is a 'Play' arrow on the same screen which can be selected, and hitting 'Play' on my DVD player remote will play the main programme anyway.
In fact, if it's a single-clip DVD, why create a menu anyway?
The placement of that thingy covering the beginning of the text were reported and discussed with the first MF5 trial version. It hasn't changed.has to sit on top of the text
But as already mentioned you can choose another template that uses other highlighting instead of the circle (which has a bad offset value).

Yes, it's the SmartScene 05_OneS01, or same in 16:9 with "W". Black background default, preview is green (a branch with leaves).
The covered text was one of the first things you notice because in the trial you only have about 3 templates (1 in each category).
And the Thumbnail menu 05_SceB01 with the white wave animation was also a strange choice for the trial because it put a green flower on the clip when selected.

OK don't expect this to become a habit.
You can open and modify the templates with PhotoImpact.
As a demo I have reduced the text field by 6 characters and nudged it over to the right away from the highlight image(s).
These will not overwrite your existing menu Template but will add to it.

Steve,
Very kind of you. Thanks.
Note to anyone that downloads it...
The zip contains the path of Steve's installation (without drive letter):
(Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\...)
So after unpacking move the files to the matching location of your installation.
In my case I installed MF5+ to a path on C: without the extra "Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus". Yours may not even be in "Program Files", especially if you have a non-english Windows installation.
