MSP7 lag problem using scrubber
Funny thing..
I trialled MSP7 on a W2K system and was very impressed with (amongst other things) the responsiveness of the scrubber in the editor.
I recently purchased the product and installed it on my new XP system and that scrubber is terrible - there's a big lag, when you move it with the mouse it doesn't follow straight away but then jumps to the new position about 5-10 secs after. I'm disappointed
I've updated with their SP2 and no difference.
My XP system is a P4 2.8Ghz 1GB RAM with GeForce FX5500. (the W2K system was way less than that spec and I never had a problem with this)
(wouldn't be a problem with running a flat panel screen on XP whereas it was a normal CRT on W2K?)
Anyone else having this problem and is there a fix? Thanks.

Properties show 6.14.10.5305.
I've tinkered wit HW acceleration, turned off all non-essential system tasks - I've even tries a different mouse. All to no avail.
I'm tempted to hook up a CRT rather than the flat panel to see if it makes any difference
Do you experience the lag I'm talking about or are your problems more of an overall general nature?

Thanks htchien, those were good references I hadn't come across before.
Unfortunately, I applied all the advice there and the problem hasn't gone away.
Since my last post, I have tried to isolate the problem a little more and can add the following information:
The 'lag' I am experiencing always happens when I first try to move the location of the slider / scrubber (cursor) from its initial position on the main timeline - by placing the 'Star' cursor over the slider and holding down the left mouse button to drag it. As I say it's literally 5secs before the slider will move to the position i have moved to before it snaps into the location.
Once I have it in the new location, I can scrub left and right about 3 or 4 times (while holding down the left mouse button) and then suddenly stop and after about 5secs it catches up again.
I can create the same symptoms by simply clicking at various time locations on the timeline (to relocate the slider position) and get the same symptoms.
What's weird is that the problem is there even if I don't have a video loaded in the editor ie. I just open up the editor and click on the main timeline.
I have tested the problem with all my non-essential services turned off (AV, Firewall etc. etc.) and it makes no difference to the problem.
I noticed that whenever I do relocate the slider on the scrubber the CPU utilisation shows a task veditor.exe that shoots up to 98 or 99% CPU utilisation - so obviously it is a very CPU intensive operation.
I am a new user of MSP7 but worth noting that when I trialled the product on my W2K machine - but subsequently purchased and installed on XP Pro - I did not experience this problem at all.
Seems to me there is either an interrupt of some sort kicking in or the product itself is going into a 'spin' for some reason when I use this function.
Hopefully that helps clarify things a little further.

If you turn off the Hyper-Threading feature in the BIOS, will it fix the problem??

Had a look at the BIOS settings and there doesn't appear to be any Hyper-Threading option in the BIOS.
My BIOS is Americam Megatrends Inc, v2.51 - BIOS revision 3.25 04/27/04.
Don't know enough about that subject - is there another way I can check whether it's there or not and what status it's at?
Thanks.

After you see the BIOS screen, select Advanced Chipset Features, and look for Hyper-Threading Function. Press Enter on that item and then select Disable.
After you test MSP with the feature off, you can use the same steps to turn it on.
If you do not see the Hyper-Threading item in the BIOS, then I think the CPU you use does not have the Hyper-Threading feature, that means it's not the problem and you might need to contact Ulead Tech Support for your problem.
Hope this helps.

Thought I'd report back on this one - couldn't find any previous posts on it so hopefully it may be helpfull to other users.
(I still haven't found time to report the problem to Ulead support yet
but I have isolated the problem, don't know exactly what is happening but have an easy work-around which gets rid of the problem described altogether.
There is a conflict between MSOFFICE.EXE - the MS Office Task Bar and MSP7 on my system. When I end that task in Task Manager then the lag problem disappears altogether and the response when I drag the scrubber is immediate - as it should be.
I'm running MS Office 2000 Professional (fully patched) under XP Pro SP2 (also fully patched).
Starting the MS Office Task bar is a startup option so I can just turn it off permanently as it's not vital.
Be interested to know if anyone has ever come across this or has any thoughts why this conflict may be happening.
(can't afford to update to latest MS Office as I spent all my money on MSP7)
I'm happy!

Yes, some programs running in the background might also cause the issue, that's why many people suggest not to run any background programs such as anti-virus scanner or Windows Task Scheduler.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
I also recommend a free download http://www.xstudio.ca/pcsupport/system/ ... ement.html called EndIt All.
It kills all the background apps.
