Becoming more Professional and needing new software ideas?

Post by Toppler »

Hello ok this is proabbly going to be a in depth question but hopefully someone will be able to realy help me.

So i love photo and video editing. I have started to film eerything (birthdays, trips, holidays, ect) i think i am taking after my grandfather but anyways, I currently hae photo impact 10 for photos but that is not important. I am using ulead video studio 10 right know but feel there is still stuff that i am missing from i guess Professional editing? I have seen things from like the apple editor which allows you to i think have miltuple menu video layers? and i have seen things that are just amazing with meus and such. But i am not sure which program will be the best ulead has and such if there is only one program.

I have also been interested in things like interactive movies for kids and such to pick how the movie plays out and such. the two programs i have seen are Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8 and Ulead DVD Workshop 2. Is there something differnent or anything itshould know. I love video studio 10 but i can tell it is not "Professional editing software" there is so much i want to do and i am just not sure what program or programs i need to do that. But i know when i pop in like lord of the rings i can not make many of there menus and such.

also just a side question anyknow konw how to make thoes muli-layer menus where for instance it is broken down into squares on the screen where the main backround is playing one thing and then there will be a square on one side playing another part and so forth.

Any ways if anyone can help me with becoming more Professional with my software that would be wonderfull and thank you!

You are on the right track with MSP 8 and DVD WS 2, MovieFactory 5 Plus may also interest you. Anything more advanced (professional) over and above these programs will cost you thousands more and have an even steeper learning curve. I don't know what you can do with an Apple but I do know that most Ulead programs do not work on an Apple platform.

I'm not sure I follow what you are wanting to do. Would this be a similar look that a wall of TV screens, each playing a different part of the same video? Or just a PIP (Picture in Picture) effect, where the PIP is playing something different? I guess I'm further confused when it is a multi-layer menu, that would appear that way.

"Thousands more" is a little bit exaggerated on the PC side. I'm sure there are both NLE's and SD DVD Authoring titles out there that are comparable in price and performance (and might even have more features -- at least in terms of SD DVD Authoring).

A "steeper learning curve" is a fair statement -- but I can understand a steeper learning curve if it has additional functionality...

yea i guess it would be more like a picture in picture effect. Like the main backround one scene i guess you could sa then another box somewhere on top of that as another screne ect.

This sounds more like just motion menus, where the buttons are thumbnail previews of the video clips they are linked to. Is that a correct assessment?

You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial. It covers the entire spectrum, including creating DVD menus.

This seems a clasic case for one of Charlie Hills getting results books. http://www.getting-results.com/

I got myself the one for MSP8 and never looked back.
