Many chapters but few thumbnails on DVD menu?

Post by Fred S »

Apologies if this newbie question is a dumb one. I've saved my first edited footage as a large MPEG2 and have then added it and manually created chapter points in the Share phase according to the recommended procedure. But as I've got approximately 30 chapters this results in several pages on the resultant DVD menu.

Is there any way to retain the same number of chapters but have fewer thumbnails (say 6) and therefore only one further page (in addition to the main page) on the DVD menu?

I don't think so. If you want a chapters menu (which isn't compulsory) I believe you must have all your designated chapters represented on the chapter menu. However, you can still have your chapters on the final burned DVD, which can be selected on your player's remote control, but elect not to have a chapter menu on your disc. Which version of VS are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I'm using VS10.

Would another option be to split the single large file into (say) 6 separate files?

If you do it that way you will have 6 thumbnails on your menu (representing the 6 video files) and you can jump to chapters using your remote, which is, apparently what you want.
