Motion menu-poor quality

Post by Boskovic »

I have just finished comparing encoding engines from couple of dvd authoring aplications, and I have to complain about DVDWS. Although it is maybe the best dvd authoring software it has the worst motion menu encoding.
Is there a way to get better quality or to change Ulead's encoder?
Only encoding quality is the problem. Everything else is perfect.

Anti Flicker?

Post by GeorgeW »

Did you try it without the "Anti Flicker" option checked? This has a way of "softening" the picture (to reduce the flicker on still menus). I'm not sure what effect it has on motion menus...

I asked a similar question about a year ago with no real answer. There seems to be no way to desginate the quality to be used in your menus. You would think it would pick the same as what you choose for your video, but the results do not seem to support that hypothesis.

You can use your own encoder to encode the video to some DVD complaint MPEG format, then set the project properties in DVD WorkShop to carefully match the properties of the MPEG file so when muxing the DVD in DVD WorkShop it can invoke the Smart Render feature and do not re-encode your video.

Or you can follow the steps in http://www.jonesgroup.net/media/id137.htm to turn on the Advanced settings in DVD WorkShop to adjust the encoding parameters by yourself.

You can also check the following tutorial written by Jerry Jones for more information.

Hope this helps.

HT,
Thanks for the pointer to Jerry's site. I'll have to check that out. Hopefully it will help me in future productions.

What was your experience?

Post by matthias-web »

Hi!

I am looking also for the reason of the bad motion menus and (more important) for a solution...

What was your experience? Was the changing of the advanced settings helpful?

Have anyone tried to ask for this problem the ulead support?

With best regards,
Matthias
