video capture problem

Post by packsaddle »

hi.

my camera is a sony digital camera and i am using ulead video studio.

when i am playing my video to capture, it has a "stop and go" effect on the computer screen.

it will play about 2 seconds and then pause about 2 seconds and then play about 2 more seconds and then pause about 2 more seconds.

it's almost a cyclying effect.

i'm not very computer savvy, so be gentle.

thanks, in advance.

You give us absolutely nothing to go by. Please fill in your system specs (click Profile above).

How do you have your camera connected to your pc?

Hi

And welcome to the forum

What makes you think the reply will be anything but gentle.

After writing this reply I have to make the dinner, we will be eating about 6 ish
You are welcome to join us.

Anyhow can you give a bit more info;

What version of Video Studio are u using.?

How have you connected the camera to the pc?

The best method is via firewire cable, I know that the camera will not have been supplied with this cable, you will have to purchase separately, along with a capture card.

Capturing video using the USB cable should not be an option.

The 2 seconds pause suggests a slow pc.

Fill in your pc spec¡¦ in your profile.

Does the captured video show the same 2 second pauses or is this just the preview during capture.

sorry.

yes, i am using a usb cable to transfer the video from the camera to the pc.

i have tried several different video editing software packages and it is doing the same thing with all of them.

when i go to capture, the video moves forward for a couple of seconds and then freezes for a couple of seconds and then moves forward for a couple of seconds and then freezes for a couple of seconds, etc.

"Plenty of room and speed" tells us nothing about your system.

As Trevor stated, you should capture using firewire. USB (especially USB 1), generally, is too slow and should only be used for capturing still pictures. This is where I would start. If firewire fixes your problem, great. If not you can always come back and we'll try again.
