Hey guys, I am creating a DVD with a heap of MPEG files and when it gets to the multiplexing part it stop about half way and shows an error message "unspecified error, error code:8004138c".
I read in other posts where people have received this message and it appears it either has something to do with the size of the project or the bitrate of the MPEG files. My project is 12GB, which is obviously larger than what a DVD9 will hold but I don't want to burn it to disc - was just going to watch it from the HD. But if that was the case shouldn't DVD WS tell you that, rather than give this error code?
unspecified error, error code:8004138c

Well it does appear to be the project size. How stupid is that! If DVD WS has a problem creating a DVD that size it should say so. Is it that hard to display "Your project is too large to fit on a disc" rather than waste time trying to process the video and eventually display "unspecified error.....". Very disappointing and annoying! And why does it presume the user wants to burn the DVD anyway, I was just going to leave it on the HD?
Why does it even have a size limit? If the users wants to create a 50GB DVD then it should let them - give them a warning saying this project will not fit onto a disc and let them deal with it.

Maybe because it is called DVD Workshop?amaru96 wrote:And why does it presume the user wants to burn the DVD anyway?

I agree that "unspecifed error" is pretty frustrating. It's also possible, that there's something else wrong with your MPEG file... some tiny corruption. I've had some MPEG files that play-back perfectly (as far as I can tell). But, they cause Ulead programs to crash, or I get "lip-sync" problems.
DVD Workshop tries very hard to make compliant DVDs. There are lots of specific requirements for video-DVDs. For example, if you feed Workshop a file with a non-DVD-compliant audio or video format, it will convert it to your project settings which is (normally) a format that will play on all* standard DVD players. (...At least it will try and convert it.)
*You will get a DVD that will play on all NTSC or PAL DVD players, depending on your settings/location. And, with the exception that some DVD players simply can't play "burned" DVDs.

If DVDWS places such a restriction on the creation of the DVD why does it let me import 20+GB worth of video if it knows it can't create a DVD with the files? And why go through the facade of even trying to create the DVD and then popping up "Unspecified error....".
If I break the project into 2 the DVD is created fine, which tells me the MPEG files are not corrupted in any way.
The program should either let you create whatever size "DVD" you wish or stop users creating the DVD if the project is too large.

AFAIK, there is NO limit to the size of the files you input to DVDWS, at least within reason. This is because those greater than the DVD capacity or those incompatible with the DVD standards will be encoded according to your project settings and the DVD standard, which is limited to a DVD SL or DL disc, as appropriate. While in the Edit mode, you can check the size of the resultant DVD in the top left-hand corner. E.g., if this exceeds 4.37 Gb (4.1 Gb max recommended) for SL, then you have the opportunity to change the settings before the actual burning. It's as simple as that and I see no reason for your aggressive tone just because you are trying to do something which is not included in the DVD standard.

All I'm saying/asking is that the program recognises that what I am telling it to do is not possible and to display a message or prevent me from going ahead.
As a test, I just imported 150GB and told it to "burn" it to DVD folders on my HD. It had no issue in trying to, although that error came up as normal. Don't you think it should of stopped me?
I'm not trying to be aggressive but have wasted a good amount of time on this project and feel rather frustrated.

It will burn to your hard disc provided your file is to DVD Standards.
