A registry error

Post by Redester »

Now a new aggravation with MSP8.

:?:

After un-installing and reinstalling all of MSP8 I get a small window stating "A registry error" whenever loading Editor Or MF. A click gets rid of it, but the programs do not "feel" right. Editor says "Cannot find the file", even if pointing to and displaying the file I want to reload! Of course this "error" phrase cannot be found on the system. I run Registry Cleaner pro, Enditall and Windoze Clean-Up Pro on a regular basis. None can dampen the spirit of this hateful pop-up whenever loading the Editor or Movie factory 4.2.

I have MF 5 on order and would like to do a fresh installation of MSP 8 editor and the new MF 5. But... I fear the registry error thing will still be lying doggo and ready to corrupt any new effort.

Has this problem been addressed?

It has been touched on in the MUG group, but no definitive fix has been located.

Any help or comments will be welcome,

Ray_Edester@bellsouth.net

You can peruse the following for any clues:
Re-Installation Procedure

Could you perhaps grab a screenshot or at least make a note of the complete error message.

Well Steve,

A small screen opens in the middle and the words "A registry error" appears. A click and it's gone.

'No big deal, except the cause/effect cannot be found and Windoze XP, SP2 is dang sure of no help. :!:

I have searched for all/any of the words.... nothing. Even a scan of the partition with Linux finds nothing. 'Encyrpted most likely....

Before re-installing (wasting more time) I wish I could find a way to prevent this from happening again. I copied the info about re-installing Video Studio. Perhaps it may work for MediaStudio as well??

Thank you,

Ray

The re-installation link I gave you contains a table of values - including MediaStudio 8.

Have you checked the windows error messages?

To check the Windows Error Log:-
START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code apertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

New Aggravation with MPS8

Post by Redester »

Hi Steve,

Running the following in Start/run yeilded "not Found."

%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

I have performed the Uninstall of Ulead products as posted by the Support Department as;

Case #51005: Re-Installation.

I have Movie Factory 5 in hand and ready to do an installation of it and re-installation of MSP8. Only, I'm wondering in what order I should do this and if it would matter?

I have a ScreenShot showing the window of "A registry Error" but don't know how to include that here. Email would be easy as an attachment. And, it may no longer exist after removing the programs that caused it to appear??

Thanks,
Ray

%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

equates to
C:\Windows\system32\eventvwr.msc /s for most users
C:\Winnt\system32\eventvwr.msc /s for some users

And for users who have multi-boot systems, often your Windows Installation is on another drive such as
D:\Windows\system32\eventvwr.msc /s or
D:\Winnt\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

To paste your images on this forum you have to put them somewhere on the internet, either on your own website for example
http://www.steve-jones.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htm
or you can use a FREE service such as ImageShack
http://www.imageshack.us/

Then you paste a link to your image inside the IMG tags
for example my picture on the left of this post

Code: Select all

[img]http://www.steve-jones.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve.jpg[/img]
I would install MediaStudio 8 first as it contains its own (SE) version of MovieFactory 4. This way you shouldn't get any issues with your MovieFactory 5 installation.

Thanks again Steve,

I'll get on the installations right away as soon as my "defrag party" is over. I want a clean house! :)

MSP and Movie Factory 5 plus

Post by Redester »

Hi Steve,

I installed MSP8 and MF 5+ in your suggested order.
'Looks as though MSP 8 protects MF 4.2 as it still calls it for DV authoring. I had expected and hoped MF 5+ would overwrite 4.2.

Ulead seams determined to bloat my disk out of existence!

Dam! Such is the life! If I could delete 4.2 I wonder if MSP would be able to link to 5????

You have to alter the registry.
Please view: Launch the Full Version of MovieFactory from MediaStudio

See my msg in e-mail to you. I lost my access in this thread when switching to your instructions for altering the registry.

For DVD Movie Factory 5 PLus copy the following into Notepad.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0\Installer]
"DMF_EXE"="C:\\Program Files\\Ulead Systems\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\\DVDMF.exe"

For DVD MovieFactory 5 (Not plus)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0\Installer]
"DMF_EXE"="C:\\Program Files\\Ulead Systems\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\\\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\\DVDMF.exe"

Ok. Copied to A: as "MSP8fix.reg".

When clicking on this file, windows reports "Cannot import XX. The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only refgistry files."

The file looks perfectly like that copied and saved.

What else is to be done? I feel pretty much exposed to the vagaries of windows to poke around jiggle, poke and change in the registry without more solid knowledge of what I' doing.

Is the REGEDIT4 to be included? Or only..
--------------
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0\Installer]
"DMF_EXE"="C:\\Program Files\\Ulead Systems\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 Plus\\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\\DVDMF.exe"
--------------

As never having seen a Registry script....

Dummies need to know!
(And be dam careful, too!)

YES.

Simply right click one of the two links I have provided and 'Save as' - accept the default name (with a .reg extension) to your desktop.
Then double click the reg file now on your desktop.
