Problem with startingup the VideoStudio 9

Post by tarmo84 »

I installed video studio 9 in my laptop but it doesn't work. as far as I know system requierments are all enough. When i click on the "Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE DVD.exe" a screen apeers wher I can choose between Movie Wizard and VideoStudio Editor. Doesn't matter wich one I click I see a loading bar and a some picture with a girl holding a videocamera. After that nothing.
Can someone help me on that matter?

You didn't state if it closes at that point or just hangs.. If it closes then it might be the Data Execution Prevention of Windows.

To exempt your VS9SE DVD from DEP,:
  • Start>Control Panel>System
  • Advanced>Performance
  • Click on the Settings button
  • Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab
  • The bottom of the tab, select the radial button, Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select..
  • Click on the Add button, navigate to the VS9SEDVD.exe file that launches it, and add it to the list.

maybe the problem is that VS9SEDVD.exe is missing???
all I can find are:

APLoading.exe
BatchDL.exe
BurnIxa.exe
uvdetecthw.exe
vstudio.exe
vstudio.exe.manifest
APLoading.exe(another)
DVDVR.exe
Instsys.exe
MGCview.exe

They both close in a mather of seconds.

Where did you get the VideoStudio 9SE DVD that you posted about? Generally to launch, it uses the vstudio.exe. That would be the file that you need to exempt in DEP. I just thought that your SE version used the executable file you posted.

We will have to look at other possibilities, but to do that we need some more information....

Please complete your Image information found in your profile. (Clicking on that "System" button is a link to instructions on how to complete that information).

Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products

You might want to review Steve's tutorial on Creating a Video Editing Profile.

So far it seems that something is preventing VS from completing loading, which at first appears to be the DEP, but could also be a faulty/corrupt install. When installing make sure all background applications, such as antivirus, spyware, screensavers, and even internet connections, are disabled. Also when is the last time you defragmented your hard drive(s)? Fragmented drives can pose problems with programs functioning smoothly. Try doing a defrag on your system, before installing. That way it insures that all the files are copied to your hard drive to consecutive sectors/blocks. Installing on fragmented drives, will result in files having to be split into available sectors.

What hardware did the VS9SE DVD disc come with? Your SE version of course is a freebie version that is generally bundled with hardware. Some vendors tweak the SE versions to fit their products only.

When installing:
  • You are installing to the default directory,( which is usually C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems) ?
  • Are you getting any errors while installing?
  • Are you installing this under a profile that has Admin Permissions ?
  • Does the User Account have permissions set to access the program?
  • Try deleting all the files inside your Temp folders (not the folder). You need to be able to see Hidden files and folders. In Windows Explorer go to Tools>Folder Options, then click on the View tab, and scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders, check the box beside Show Hidden Files and Folders. Then go to C:>Documents and Settings>User_Name_Here>Local Settings>Temp. Some files retained in the Temp folders can be reused while installing, so a new install may not overwrite a corrupt file in the Temp folders.
One other possibility is failing hardware. Even though the laptop, hard drives, and memory modules may be new or fairly new, does not mean they are good. Steve Jones (sjj1805) has experienced this with a new hard drive, and I with a memory module. No matter what we tried, we kept having problems. Steve narrowed his down to the brand new hard drive, and when it was replaced no more problems. I replaced my memory module and problem disappeared.

To check your hard drive run Windows Error Checking. (Windows Explorer, My Computer, right-click on a hard drive and select Properties. Then in the window that opens go to the Tools tab and select Error Checking).

To test your memory (RAM) modules you can download a free utility called Memtest86 found here:http://www.memtest86.com/ .

Then you could download the trial version of VS10 + and see if you get the same problems. You can get it here: http://www.ulead.com/vs/trial.htm

You are installing to the default directory,( which is usually C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems) ? YES

Are you getting any errors while installing? NO

Are you installing this under a profile that has Admin Permissions ? YES

Does the User Account have permissions set to access the program? YES it's the same acount

Try deleting all the files inside your Temp folders (not the folder).
Tried that already and deleted all temp folders

The VS 10 has the same effect.
Ran the error checking nothing.

Havent tested the RAM yet, but can the problem be in that?

For more information of my computer:

HP laptop compaq nx9010
about 2 years old
Had a harddrive changed about a year ago because it crashed. They told me that it wa a manufactures fault.

The only internet connection I am aware of is in File > Preferences > General > Check Ulead website every XX days [for updates or patches]. I always set this to zero so no connection is made. Otherwise, the program would go on line at the designated time if a connection existed to the internet at that time -- though I am not sure it would actually start a connection to the internet if the modem/connection was switched off or was unconnected at the time...

Can you first confirm that you actually tried Vidoman's suggestion with regard to Windows Data Execution Prevention. It is not clear in your subsequent posts whether you did or not.

The question is really important since the DEP problem apparently only arose very recently with the latest (or next to latest) Windows XP update patches last week which only seem to have affected a few computers this way...

VS9 Won't start

Post by andyjamieson1 »

Hi,

I along with many others have had the same problem and have tried all the varied suggestions on the forum with no success. The one thing that did work for me was suggested by another user "gordon fan 24" and that was to set up a new user account in windows and access VS9 from it. This worked and continues to work for me 12 months later, whilst VS9 still does not work in my original account! I now keep this new account purely for VS9 and use my other account for everything else.

hope this helps

Per Ron's earlier suggestion, have you tried Creating A Video Editing Profile?
