Changing the start of a loop in a thumbnail/button

Post by monkeytastic »

The start of 1 clip is blank on the original clip so therefore when the thumbnail preview comes up on the menu, the blank is showing. Instead, how can I select a later period of the clip to show? I've tried setting the loop point but it keeps resetting.

Create a small video clip from your original video. Then just drag that smaller video clip onto the thumbnail button (it will become the motion thumbnail for the button).

Just to give you another method:
DVD workshop and MenuEdit

Both will work, its just giving you an alternative.

This method works; however, keep in mind it will still embed the extra chapter marks within the DVD files. This probably won't matter to most folks, but some might notice the chapter number(s) changing on their player (either standalone or software player). And eventually the chapter-display won't look like they correspond to the chapter numbers on the menu. Also, they might notice hitting the "Next" button will take them to the start of the video being used as the motion thumbnail (because it's defined as a chapter mark during authoring).

Just a slight difference in the behind-the-scenes coding, and playback of the DVD.

Click the thumbnail once to select it, now hold down the left mouse button and drag the thumbnail over to the thumbnail place holder on your menu.

George -- can I also ask a newbie sounding question (as I am relatively new to Workshop). Do you create the small video within Workshop? And if not, where do you place it within Workshop before you drag it onto the thumbnail button?

Hi,

Sorry, I wasn't clear on which thumbnail (I agree, there are alot of thumbnails).

Let me try again.

Setup the menu so it has all your buttons linked to the chapter/title you want.

First, I create a small clip outside of DVD WS. Then to change the motion for a menu button, on the left side of the screen, use the VIDEO - GENERAL tab. Hit the folder icon to bring your smaller clip into the library (do not add it to your timeline, just add it to the VIDEO - GENERAL library on the left).

Now left-click/drag the thumbnail of the small clip from the VIDEO - GENERAL library on the left, and place it on top of an existing motion button on your menu -- this will make the motion for that button become your small clip.

George

GeorgeW, thanks for you rushed reply!

Unfortunately your trick dnot working for me, because I create menu-motion-background which is 41 second long and initiate of this video-stream is 20 sec. without any buttons, but after this 20 sec. comming 5 (five) Text-buttons like: Play Movie, Scene selection, Audio selection, Movie trailers, and Biography

this text-buttons started together at the beginning and its looks very poor and very unprofessional, I only would like that my text-buttons will appear after 20 sec., how can i do that?

Thanks in advance

You have to cheat!

Create a first play video that represents the bit that you want to appear
BEFORE any of your menu buttons appear (The first 21 seconds), then when you 'run out of first play video' it continues with the menu now containing the rest of your video in the background (The next 20 seconds).

Obviously when you reach the end of the entire 41 second 'show' your menu will now want to loop and this time you want the entire 41 seconds to display.

You have two work rounds.
Option 1, tag the first 21 seconds onto the END of the last 20 seconds so in fact you have a Menu that has a 41 second background video BUT it plays the last 20 seconds BEFORE the first 21 seconds.
Option 2, at the end of the background video - i.e. when it has run the entire 41 seconds, have the menu auto activate a hidden button that now takes you to another menu that visually appears identical to the original. This second menu can now have a complete 41 second background video.

That is exactly the problem, because if I go this way and create first 21 sec. video and put it as fist video and the rest of 20 sec. video put as background video, it will be ok, but problem is about 1 sec. PAUSE between this video-audio.

The answer then is perhaps a bit deep for most users of this forum, but the way I would tackle it is the way I tackled the following:

Transitions Between menu Pages

If you read through the procedure I used for that particular task you will discover that when you create a DVD with Workshop it creates some temporary video files that are representations of your DVD Menus.

You will need to generate one (or more) of these temporary video files and then import it into VideoStudio from which you should be able to create a first play video that includes what appears to be your DVD menu.

Obviously at this point no one would be able to select any buttons etc. as they don't actually exist - they are simply a part of the first play video.
