How to split audio file and save the clipped audio file?
Is it necessary to keep the original source audio file saved?

NBHatt22 you can split the audio clips the same way you can split the video clips..sissors option or trim option. Then you can save the clipped
audio clip as a sound file. There is no need to save the original unmodified sound clip, if you no longer have a need for it

SAVE AS ".mp3" file??

Joe O:

Thanks.
You mentioned about saving the clipped audio clip as a sound file. I can only see SAVE AS ".VSP" file option, not SAVE AS ".mp3" file.

Prior to capturing the video clip, go to File - Project Properties - edit file formate...you will have two choices...one is MPEG and the other
MICROSOFT AVI....I usually select AVI...
Then after it is in the timeline...select SHARE-CREATE SOUNDFILE

And it does not save as .mp3. You have the choice of .WAV (which I would recommend), .wmv or .mpa.

Also be aware of a little sleight of hand that VS indulges in when you split the audio. In effect, it copies the main audio track of your video and places it in the voice track. But in actuality it also retains the original audio, but mutes it. If you look at the mute button when you highlight the original video, you will see that it active. So even though you split off your audio and even make a new file out of it, you can always still revert to the original audio in case you later change your mind or make a mistake!
