In the "Save As" dialog box, there a "Save As Type" line. In your case, you should see, "UFO (Ulead File For Objects)."

Click to see the drop down menu and scroll up to "JPG/JPEG/JPE (JPEG file interchange format). Click and "Save".

The "Save As" default is now changed to "jpg."
It will change again only when you change it.

There is no setting to change from the default ufo to jpg, it would be conterproductive. As long as you are working on an image and want to do an interim save, if you were to save to jpg, your quality deminishes with every save. Saving to ufo does not degrade quality.

That is a shame. I generally only save photos once, as jpg and finding the jpg in the long list of file types is somewhat tiresome.

Not as tiresome as if you were to find out that your jpeg image was saved again under the same name and quality was irretrievably lost, I bet.

That is true, but it is a risk that I would like to be able to take.

For similar reasons however, it is not possible, I believe to set the default file save format of word to .txt or even .rtf afaik, so I can see that it is probably too much to ask.

Alternatively if it were possible to limit the options to .gif .jpg and .ufo (and perhaps .bmp) then that would make it easy to choose.

I don't know exactly why but my PI 12 comes up with jpeg when I have a jpeg image open and select "Save As.."

I think PI 12 defaults to the last choice made.

Edited
Just tried it again. When an ufo image is open and save as is selected, the default selection is ufo. Opening a jpeg image makes PI 12 default to jpeg

never even knew this was happening. :D

PI12 does default to the last format saved.

In my workflow, I always copy and save my original file as a .ufo file. Even if i don't intend on modifying it. Never modify the original. You never know when you might change your mind :-)

UFO advantage

UFO is a great way to save files - consistent quality, layers, and a relatively small file size.
