Capturing from VCR
I have a Canon DV Camcorder that I can hook up to my VCR and am able to capture via firewire into my computer. I would like to "split the scenes" but for some reason, when I go to edit, it's all one file. I did check the "split scenes" box. Any suggestions?

The split by scenes function works only with videos that were captud with a digital camcorder. It works as a result of the camcorder writing a hidden timecode whilst recording. The software detects changes in that timecode to ascetain when the camcorder was turned on/off.
As you are dealing with a video on your VHS player it will not have these timecodes. You can do the following:
Split by scene detect - this looks for major changes in the video such as the soundtrack of going from a light scene to a dark scene.

Years ago, I used to capture from my VCR using the Pinnancle software with the Dazzle 150 converter. Why using that software was I able to capture with split scenes, which was also analog, and I'm not able to do so with Ulead?

Re: Capturing from VCR
IIRC, the Dazzle/Pinnacle devices and software used the Scene Detection (changes to the frames contents) and not date/time stamp. Analogue video as Steve pointed out does not have a date or time written to it. I still have a Dazzle device, and it used such a method for splitting (scenes).Danztheman wrote:Years ago, I used to capture from my VCR using the Pinnancle software with the Dazzle 150 converter. In your reply you say, I can do the following: "Split by scene detect - this looks for major changes in the video such as the soundtrack of going from a light scene to a dark scene". I'm a little confused. I checked off "split by scene" in the capture mode. That does not split the scenes when capturing from a VCR-I got that. Is there something specific I can do so that I will get my scenes split capturing from VCR? Thanks for your input.
