Video studio 7 audio problems

Post by BrianLas »

I can not get the audio to work properly, it is very distorted

it is for video of thanksgiving
I am using a samsung d353

the project settings I have tried are the standard ones when you reinstall vs 7. I have used the software fine before, I haven't in a while though, like 5 months, when I tried to use it, no audio came up. I messed around with a thing or two, then tried to reinstall it.

Can we assume you are capturing using Firewire from your Samsung? If not, how are you capturing? Is it only when you are capturing that the audio is distorted, or during editing as well? Does other audio play properly on your computer e.g. over Windows Media Player?

Do you have a friend where you might be able to test either your firewire cable or the Samsung itself?

What were the things you 'messed around' with before reinstalling?

Sorry for all the questions, but you haven't really given us all that much to work on...

I am connecting with a USB cord, and the audio is distorted after I capture, when I go to the edit tab. In the capture part it is fine, but that is cause it is coming from my camcorder.

Audio works fine in everything else on the computer.

I tried to adjust the settings, in software compression and format, from mpeg to avi.

Hope you can help

Well, your camera does have an iLink/IEEE1393/Firewire port. None of the cameras I know about come with the required firewire cable, only with a USB cable to transfer the still images.

I hazard a guess that all your woes are over, if you get yourself a firewire cable and connect the cam that way. After all, that's what almost anyone around here does. USB is just not up to the task of transferring the required amount of data reliably.

There is plenty you can do. It is outlined in the link I gave.

Hi Brian

The best form of capture is via a firewire connection to Dv-Avi.
This transfers your video from your camera to the pc without recoding.

What you have in the camera is what you get.

Any other capture method requires re-coding/transcoding, this can cause all sorts of quality problems.

The worst method of capture for video is probably via USB, and should be used for still image transfer.

The bottom line really is that you should check whether your computer has a Firewire card in it. If not, they are cheap and easy to install in a spare slot on your motherboard. I recently bought a new one here in Australia and it cost around US$15 and that included a cable. If you have to buy a cable separately, make sure it has the correct plugs at either end. Your camera will have a mini-firewire 4-pin slot, while the computer would normal use a larger 6-pin one -- so you will need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable.

As a footnote on USB, most mini-DV video cameras, and certainly your Samsung, only come with a USB 1.0 port (as well as the Firewire one). Only some very high end, expensive ones have high speed USB 2.0 ports, and even most of those still only use the USB connection for transferring still images taken by the camera or else low-quality streaming video. Firewire was in effect developed (by Sony, I think) as the means to transfer high quality DV format video from your camera to a computer. Go for it. You won't regret it.

Well I do have a firewall in my computer and a way to connect to my computer. My biggest problem was that I have made 4 or 5 movies already with my usb 2.0 connection. I just do not know what happened though.

Hopefully this will make it easier to transfer and everything.

If not I will post again! :)

Is that just a typo, or did you really mean 'firewall'. A firewall is of course totally different from and totally unrelated to Firewire...

I just got a Firewire (typo) cable and I would like to say thanks to everyone who told me how much better quality you get compared to USB. The difference is astounding.

Thanks
