PLEASE URGENT: unable to re-install photo express 6

Post by joke.crabbe@skynet.be »

Hello,

I hope someone can help me... I've purchased the pe6 a few weeks ago. I had a lot of problems with it so I unistalled/deleted it, now I want to re-install it and it doesn't work! It's on my computer, but when I want to open it I always get the message that I first have to install it on my computer.... I don't get an answer from the technical support, so I hope I'll find some here. I work with windows XP prof.

I'm pregnant and in 1 1/2 week the baby will be here, I was busy creating cards with my son for the birth of the baby, and now I can't finish the cards. That's why it's so urgent!

Thanks a lot and excuse me for my poor English, it's been a long time that I wrote a text in English.

You are doing just fine with your english, don't worry.

It appears that you did not completely remove or correctly reinstalled this program. Can you repeat the steps you took for our information. With that we may be able to find a solution.

Have you tried to act on the advice given by your system and reinstalled the program from that prompt? What happened then?

Also, could you please describe the problems you were having before you decided to uninstall the program?

One more thing, are you installing the program as a user with administrator rights and have you set you DEP (DataExecutionPrevention) to option 1 or 2?

Please view this thread http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... hlight=dep

Even though it pertains to VideoStudio, the same would be tru for PE also. Also, when you install again, try to shut down all non-essential programs like virus scanners, firewalls and the like, for the duration of the installation.

Hope this gets you out of strife.

Thanks for your answers, I removed photo express once again (with instructions given by technical supp.). But I still have some files/folders from ulead on my computer. Should I remove these to? (Ulead Systems: is empty, and ULEAD2 150MB, folder contains backgrounds, stamps,...).

Last time when I reinstalled it, I turned of virus scanners etc. After reinstallation and when I find ulead in my progr. files (but no PE folder, only ulead systems folder without a PE folder in it), I tried to download and install the path, but I get the message that I first should install photo express... .
I reinstalled it with the link I got when I purchased PE 6: complete version (Holiday Card Templates for Photo Express 6 -
English) downloaden op de pagina
http://dl.element5.com/d/4fd645a4681e21 ... plates.exe
Bestandsgrootte: 13.0 MB
Downloadtijd: Modem/ISDN ~ 30 Min. == DSL ~ 2 Min. == T1/1,5Mbit ~ 1 Min.
Is it that way that I should reinstall it?
I hope that my explanation is understandable, it's difficult for me to explain it in English.

Heinz Oz, the problem I had was that the program always crashed ("encoured a problem and need to close"), it also took me ages to open the program (I didn't had these problems with the trial version).
Excuse me but what do you mean with: 'are you installing the progr as a user w. admin. rights.... set DEP to option 1 or 2?

I'm going to try it once again with your help and sjj1805 his help, hope it will work...

Thanks

In XP Pro you can establish different user accounts and apply limited access rights to the various accounts. The user name you use to logon with, does it have full rights?

If you had followed the link I gave in my previous post, you would have found this explanation about DEP
One of the recent security features of XP SP2 is to restrict the execution of programs from memory space that is devoted to essential operating services. This feature is controlled in the System Properties / Advanced tab / Performance Settings / Data Execution Prevention (DEP) tab.

There are two options:
1) Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs only
2) Turn on DEP for all programs and services EXCEPT those I select (text box to enter exceptions)

The default setting is (1), which does not seem to cause problems with Video Studio. However, some users have selected (2), without entering VStudio.exe as an exception, which prevents Video Studio from executing properly.
Whilst this article refers to VideoStudio, in my view, this applies to PEx also and can cause the error you encountered. Please follow the above path and make sure that DEP is only active for essential Windows programs (option 1)

Hi Heinz Oz,

The user I log on, has it full rights I think, it's a legal windows xp and I always log on with the same user. I don't know how I can check if that user has the full rights.

DEP is turned on option 1.

This is getting a bit too complex for me, I'm not that good in installing programs and solve problems with these programs. I think I have to look for another program... it's a shame because PE6 looks like a lot of fun, if I knew what I know now I would never removed it and kept working with it even if it crashed every 5 minutes, now I have nothing anymore to make my cards for the baby.
Shame of the money!!!!

Anyway, thanks a lot for your support. I hope I get an answer from the technical support, maybe there's still a chance they can help me?

Kind regards

Hi,

I already contacted the technical support for 5 days, still without an answer. They only helped me to remove it, but they don't react on any question of me how to reinstall it. I'm really disappointed in Ulead because PE6 seems like a lot of fun, and I really wanted to learn to work with it...
