UVS 10 + BURNING PROBLEM

Post by chum94555 »

I recently upgraded from UVS 10.0 to UVS 10.0 + (PLUS) so that I can have 5.1 encoding capability.

I have followed sticky recommened procedure ]and still find I cannot burn DVD when I select to use DOLBY 5.1 under DVD BURNING section. I HAVE NO PROBLEM IF I SELECT AUDIO TO BE PCM format but it will just not burn with DOLBY 5.1 and it goes upto 30 % total completeion and hangs up OR gives error message that WINDOWS HAS ENOUNTERTED A PROBLEM AND UVS 10 + WILL SHUT DOWN.

I also DO NOT burn from timeline but insted make MPEG 2 NTSC file and then try to burn DVD as suggested in the recommened procedure

My mere reason to upgrade is to have 5.1 capability. Is this known problem?

I have made sure one known update is installed, system is robust to handle (PENTIUM 4, 2.3 GHZ, 2 GM RAM, 200 GB HDD etc all).

any idea? Pl help

thanks

Does your mpeg-2 file have Dolby 5.1 as its audio i.e. did you create it specifically with 5.1 channels? If not, then you are in effect asking VS to convert the audio format from dual channel stereo to 5.1 channels on the fly. In addition, it has nothing to put in those extra channels...

A real common myth is that a mpeg file will support DD5.1.... it does not.

You can not export dd5.1 (AC3) to mpeg file. Your audio will come out as MPEG AUDIO, not AC3... in other words, you are losing your dd5.1 inyour export to file. Your dvd burn program then becomes confused because you are asking it to burn a sound format that is not present.

If you want dd5.1 then you must burn DIRECTLY from the time line or purchase a AC3 encoder which will allow you to create and export a AC3 audio file for import to you burn program.

Sorry, but I thought that was precisely what VS10+ provides! :?: :?:

Not sure I understand what you are saying...

Are you saying vs10+ allows mpeg audio to support AC3?? (if that is what you are saying then I am afraid I must tell you it is not true... mpeg audio is 2 layer... not multi layer)

Sorry Ken... I'm wrong on the 2 layer acount.

If you export to mpeg file, the audio comes out as mpeg 1, 3 layer, but I still believe that that is not enough to fully support AC3

The only program (that I know of anyway) that allows full and true export of AC3 (when exporting to file) is Sony Vegas 7 which comes with a AC3 export option... but then it's NOT a cheap program!!!

AHHH... forget it Ken.... I'm sorry I even posted... I'm so far out to lunch on this one, it's not funny!

I ran a quick test (made file then burned from file) and the AC3 does come out the other end... don't THINK it's FULL and true AC3 but it did come out, and more to the pont, I did not get a hang.... The disk burned fine. Sooooo.... exporting Mpeg to file is NOT the problem.

Neonbob -- just to muddy the waters still further, when you say 'AC-3' in your most recent posts, do you mean 5.1 Dolby or Dolby dual channel stereo? What does right clicking the file say in Properties?

AC3 = DD5.1 channels.... not Dolby 2 channel

Right clicking doesn't really do a lot.

I use a quick little program called VIDEO INSPECTOR. It will give some quick details (bitrate, audio... etc) of a mpeg file.

If you want more detail then you can always use MPEG2 VALIDATOR

Your capture where possible should be in DV.
Your Output should be in MPEG2.
