Capturing Problem
When I capture from my Canon DV Camcorder thru firewire, my computer freezes up. CPU usuage goes up to 100%. I have found when I disable my Soundblaster Audigy SE soundcard, I'm able to capture (no sound) with no problem. There is some sort of software conflict. Any suggestons???

Welcome to the forum -- and particular thanks for filling in your system details from the beginning. They look fine, by the way (though see below re your HDD), and as far as I am aware, there should be no conflict with your Soundblaster audio card. As you know, lots of people have them, including lots of Video Studio users, and they can capture just fine. The high CPU usage is also suspicious as capture via Firewire is perhaps the least demanding on a computer's resources.
But there lies the rub. Can you tell us exactly what format you are capturing to? If you have a Canon mini DV camera, then you should be capturing to DV format (and DV Type 1, not 2), editing in that format, and only then converting it to DVD-compliant mpeg-2. If you are trying to capture direct to mpeg-2 format, that is possibly where your problem lies. That is a very demanding process which can simply clog up some computers.
The other factor may be your hard drive. It is only 80 GB which these days is pretty small, especially for capturing and editing DV/AVI format which uses 13 GB just for a single one hour mini DV cassette. If you have lots of other stuff on that drive, and have not defragmented it regularly, it may simply not have the space to be able to cope with the volume of information coming into it.
Have you ever been able to capture DV format via your firewire connection? And did the computer come with that connection or did you recently add a firewire card to it?

Also, do you have anything running in the background as you try to capture, such as virus protection?

Capturing Problem
Ken, thanks for your immediate response. I'm capturing to DV Type 1. As for my hard drive, I have a second hard drive (250 gb) that I use only for capturing. I am able to capture from a free ware program called WinDv, with the soundcard enabled, with no problem whatsoever. I can use WinDv and import files into Ulead for editing and burning, however, I'd like to Capture, Edit and Burn all from Ulead.

Yes, when trying to capture, I have disabled my Norton Anti Virus and Webroot Spysweeper.

That is even stranger, that it works fine with WinDV but not with VS. Mind you, I mostly use WinDV to do the captures on my own computer, and then import them into VS for editing. Lots of us use various programs in the whole video processing thing, rather than simply relying on VS for everything. Nothing wrong with that.
I am afraid the only thing I can think of is to do either a Repair of your VS installation, if you have the boxed version, or a full reinstall if you have the download version...

Capturing Problem
I have tried the boxed version and the downloaded version from Ulead. I guess I'll use WinDv and import the files to Ulead. Thanks for your help.

To use WinDV for capture is certainly a work around and will enable you to do what you want. I'm just concerned that there is definately something very wrong with your installation of VS if you cannot capture with it. Maybe that problem will rear it's ugly head in a different area as well once you start editing/rendering. If I were you, I would try to get to the bottom of this.
