ULEAD - UNETHICAL & UNPROFESSIONAL

Post by Farrukh »

For days now I have been trying to obtain download links for products purchased years and months ago without any success.

I have sent countless emails with my product numbers and order numbers but Ulead are not honouring my original purchases.

I have spoken to agents who say that they will post the links to me but it never happens.

I lost the product in a computer rebuild however as a paid customer you would thing they should be able to help?

ULEAD IF YOU ARE READING THIS - PLEASE HELP!

Otherwise I will never purchase another product from you and I will advice others not to do so either.[/b]

Unless you have all your facts straight, I believe your subject title is too strong.

Downloading is not done through Ulead directly. You should ask Element 5, which is the company from which you received the download links in the first place. However, that having been said, if the software was purchased "years ago" and has been since upgraded, I doubt whether it is still available for download. However, you may be able to negotiate an upgrade price from Element 5 which is an honourable company. Try www.element5.com

Well I hope you never come to me as a customer. Honestly: If one of my brides from more than a year ago came to me expecting to "honour purchases" made so long ago, I'd charge her, or tell her to take a hike.

At what point (in your opinion) does a company cease to have any sort of obligation to you as a customer? If you buy a car, or a mars bar, and lose it - do you think you can go back any time and get it replaced for free? Why is your download so different? Just because it's not tangible? Think again.

You're a drain on their resources - every time you email with such expectations, it takes a person's time to deal with it. Multiply that by a few dozen people being so unreasonable, and you've got a Ulead employee that's measurably out of action - either in terms of salary or time that could be used on development or support requests.

I'd be careful about posting things like that, if I were you. In some territories, such threats are illegal. To be honest, it won't make much difference to Ulead. If the customers they lose are the sort who would be swayed by your arguments, or lack of them, then Ulead are probably better off without them.

For you to expect a company to oblige you with a purchase from years ago, is absurd!! Most products may carry a "Limited Warranty" or a "Satisfaction" guarantee that may last up to a year. However reading those they are not liable for customer negligence, which your claim clearly falls into.

Try this one and see how you would feel....
I currently have a couple of programs that I purchased when they first were released. This was about 5 years ago. One of them being Picasa. I'll bet you've heard of that one. The same one that you get free from Google, however Google's current version is much better then the version I spent $50 for. Or how about LavaSoft Ad-Aware. I have the purchased version, that I can not upgrade, so I'm resolved to using the freebie SE version.

Those are just a couple of programs. Now if your correct in thinking that Ulead should provide you with those versions you downloaded from years ago, that you negligently lost, then I should be able to get refunds for those programs. Ha Ha.. not going to happen...Chalk it up to a learning experience, and move on. That's life, it is not fair, but that's the way it is. Maybe the next program you purchase you will be more careful about backing up and maintaining your copies... [/end rant]

If I purchased a product for several hundred dollars, what I paid for was the licence.

With most other products I can get hold of the product simply by downloading it and entering my licence key. That's how it should work.

With ULEAD you get a download link active for a few days or you can pay for a CD shipment.

I have the facts I need and I am going to take this up to ULEAD legally. Element 5 are simply the furnishing the transaction, I purchased off the ULEAD web site.

If this is not successful then fine. Its not a product or company worth doing business with again anyways.

You are quite right, you purchased the license, and you still have it. As far as your download is concerned, it's your responsibility to safe keeping.
Get real.

While you're at it write a letter to Bill Gates and tell him you have bought your copy of Windows XP and you have your serial number but the disc has broke. Ask him if he would be so kind to send you a new one.

let us know how you get on. :D

Yeah, or try to tell him that the PC it was installed on broke down and needed a new HDD. Since you lost the original CD, you would like to have a new one or a location where you can download it from  after all, you paid a lot of money for that license.
