I am trying to capture video from my DV camera and store them as MPEG-2 files. I noticed that "Split By Scene" is disabled when I choose the MPEG format. Is there a reason why this is so? Is it a function of using the trial version?
I would look in the help file, but when I installed the trial version of VS10, the help file wasn't installed. I searched through the posts on this forum, although this particular implementation of a web board search leaves something to be disired so I might have missed something.

Hi Jason,
The reason for the Split by Scene being disabled when capturing to MPEG2 format is, that's the way Ulead designed it. (I'm not sure of the real reason. It may have something to do with the time/date not being maintained as part of the data stream.). If you capture to DV, then the Split by Scene is available. It is not just specific to the trial version.
The help file is not part of the TBYB, and should be. However you can download the manual from here: http://www.ulead.com/vs/documents.htm
With MPEG video you can only Split by Scene based on Frame Content.

Jskidis,
The reason Video Studio doesn't offer to split your video by scene when capturing is that it is better to wait until capture is complete and then offer to split any portion of your project virtually (without physically hacking your capture file into little files). You can select any video clip in the Library for a virtual split by scene.. Remember, it does not alter your capture file in any way. The resulting scenes are further editable.
