CloneDVD and MovieFactory

Post by speedricer »

HI Peeps new to this forum and found it while searching for info on Ulead MovieFactory. i have searched (to avoid flames) and found three posts on having CloneCD and MovieFactory together. One post showed issues but I am still uncertain. I will be recieving Hauppage PVR 150 which has MovieFactory software with it within the next few days. I plan to install this on my comp (AMD 1.8 with xp homeedition,512 megs of memory and a HDD of 200 gigs-vid card is FX5200)Have been happy with CloneDVD and would like to keep it as well. Will I have compatability or other issues if i keep both and use one or the other as required? Thanks in advance for your advice

I wouldn't expect any compatibility issues with CloneCD. (But, I don't have CloneCD)

There are a couple of potential issues -

There can be conflicts with packet burning (drag & drop) software, such as Nero In-CD. (These programs seem to take-over your burner.)

You are getting an 'SE' version (Simple Edition or Special Edition). I'm not sure of all of the limitations, but it won't have a Dolby audio encoder. (Dolby always gets paid... You don't get Dolby with "free" software.) The main advantage of Dolby is that it's compressed. This leaves more room for your video, which means your video can be less-compressed. This starts becomming important when you squeeze more than an hour on a DVD.

Your Hauppauge card only makes MPEG files. I have never had trouble with unedited files from my Hauppauge card, but I have sometimes had trouble with edited MPEGs. The editing process can corrupt MPEGs, and you might end-up with crashing or "lip-sync" problems. (See my signature/tag-line below. :D ) Some users never have this problem... So, that's just a little warning. (There are several solutions and work-arounds... I ended-up buying a special purpose MPEG editor from Womble.)

Download purchase notes

Post by snoops »

Hi,
get the CD, I wouldn't recommend activating the trial version.
Slightly OT, but only fair to Ulead to mention that I had no problem with the MF5+ download purchase. It was not a trial activation.
The download was a complete install (several separate parts) including all the content and extras. Version 5.30.0107.0.

However, someone else as picky as I am might benefit from these notes... I hate adding unneeded services, I hate phone-home software, I don't like bloating my system, and other software on my PC can be affected by version changes.

So I modified the unpacked archive before installation, and removed these folders and items to avoid installing them after checking the original setup:
Setup\
UpdateService (InstallShield update service)
Utilities\
AVControlSDK (breaks mpeg2 playback in wmp10 on my PC)
AcrobatReader (already have newer version)
DirectX (already have newer version)
QuickTime (7.x bloated, has Java)
WinDVD\3rdPartyApp\
InformationService (!!!installed even if not chosen!!!)
InterActual (for interactive dvd content)
Adaptec ASPI 4.60 (old. already have ASPI layer)
all Windows updates and MSI folder, like html help, etc. (old)

Notes:

AVControlSDK: is required for MF5 capture, but I don't capture with MF5. This package in the MF5 trial broke MPEG2 playback on my system. I followed the instructions, removing previous WinDVD first, but same issue with MF5+. So the AVControlSDK is taboo on my system.

QuickTime: my video editing and other software require QuickTime. I had 6.5.2 which is about 2MB. The 7.x bloated to over 70MB and installs Java code. My other software works fine with 6.5.2, so no 7.x for me.

I did not (yet) install DVDCopy or PhotoExplorer. Both have additional stuff, especially DVDCopy (similar to WinDVD, plus Google extensions).

InformationService: I really don't like it when software is installed even though explicitly chosen not to. This is the case with the InformationService (installed by WinDVD and DVDCopy), which connects to InterVideo.

You must be a IT guy to do these. For someone who is not familiar with InstallShield, they cannot do what you did.

Hi H.T.,

No, I have to correct your statement...
With the MF5+ download purchase (part1.exe and part2-5.rar files) you just run the exe file normally. It unpacks and builds the installation folder in the chosen place and then spawns the installation from there. You can just Exit.

This folder includes autorun.inf etc., so the contents of the folder can be burnt to CD to make a standard installable MF5+ CD (about 600MB).

Gladly there are no tricks needed.
