Post by marshall »

Is there anyway to import and edit HD movies from the new Sony AVCHD cams in VS10+?

Hi Marshall,

I just done a quick search on that camcorder. What is of concern is that the AVCHD format, is so new that there are few that can support or translate it. According to the http://forums.cnn.com TmpGenc 4.0 Express can convert the files to something useful. They further state that Sony does not plan to support this format in their own software, Vegas 7.0 until next spring (2007).

Apparently the camcorder uses a format m2ts, not m2t, which could be handled by several programs.

So in answer to your question, you would have to convert it with another program, and that one being TmpGenc 4.0 Express, before being able to use it with VS10 +.

Yup, I hear you and TmpGenc is what I am doing.... But quality is bad and it downmix the surround audio to stereo in the process.....

That doesn't surprise me. If you have to transcode something to make it usable with something else, quality suffers. Have you bought the cam already? if not, wait until the support for its format is there.

Yes, AVC HD and H.264 support will be included in VideoStudio 11 and DVD MovieFactory 6.

Aaahhh, version 11.

You let the cat out of the bag a bit, H.T. What other juicy info can you give us on v11 for those of us who don't do HD yet or don't have the Sony HD cams?

Hey BL, don't have to be an Einstein to work that out  'course there will be a VS 11 and a MF 6 and, 'course these will support the new HD formats 8) Question is, will these support the new formats that will undoubtedly have emerged till then?

If these weren't VISTA certified, they would be still borne too.

Heinz, like you I don't feel the need to make the move up to HD yet, so I was just looking for some hints as to whether the next version will have something I am interested in, or if I should save my $$ for MSP.

HD and Vista support don't do it for me.

I just bought the online download of MovieFactory 6 Plus and it does NOT support my Sony m2ts files. The add says full support for AVCHD without any mention of its shortcomings. I wish I got the trial version instead. Not happy at all.

I'm sorry you are not satisfied. However, the AVC HD format is indeed been listed as a supported format in DVDMF 6 Standard and Plus. Check the following link for more information:

http://www.ulead.com/dmf/sysreq.htm
On Ulead website it wrote:File Format Support

Import:

* Video: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DV AVI, HDV, AVCHD, AVI, DivX, WMV-HD, WMV-SD, DVB-T HD, ASF, DVB-T, DVD-Video, DVD+VR, DVD-VR, DVR-MS, DAT, MPV, QuickTime™ (MOV, QT), Ulead VideoStudio 10 project (VSP)
And on the DVDMF product page it also states you can import HD video from AVC HD camcorders:

http://www.ulead.com/dmf/runme.htm
On Ulead website it wrote:The HD Disc Experience
End-to-end HD DVD disc creation lets you capture from HD sources such as HDV or AVCHD camcorders, author HD discs and burn to HD DVD discs in full high-definition. Capture direct-to-disc from your DV or HDV camcorder to Blu-ray Disc, or back up your data.
And in the DVDMF 6 feature document it states the following:

http://www.ulead.com/dmf/features.htm
DVDMF 6 Standard Features (PDF document)
DVDMF 6 Plus Features (PDF document)
DVDMF 6 Feature Document wrote:NEW: AVCHD Camcorder Support ¡V Import and edit high definition footage from your AVCHD camcorder discs, and convert to other high-definition or standard definition formats.
Maybe you can contact Ulead Tech Support to ask for help, since you have already purchased the product.

Hope this helps.

Just wrote this reply after reading the users manual for MF6:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 660#105660

I've played these AVCHD mini-dvd's on a sony media player.
Using the computer I couldn't get windows to read the mini-dvd format. The mini-dvd-rw disk was finalized.
Maybe the software that's supplied with those recorders has the drivers so windows can directly read the mini-dvd.
Not sure but maybe in order to import the dvd in MF6 one may have to also install the Sony software drivers first before trying to import, maybe.
