Output to HDV Camcorder (Sony HDR-HC3)

Post by csavall »

New hi-def camcorder (Sony HDR-HC3) and new Video Studio 10 Plus (SP1) software. I want to capture, edit and output back to camcorder tape for playback. I have read jchunter tutorial, (very helpful, thanks), but have a question about final output. After I have rendered my project as a final MPEG2 file, under the "Share" tab, when I select the "HDV recording" function, the entire file is re-rendered to apply what is called "HDV MPEG Transport Stream File," which is immediately followed by an option to output the file to tape. This requires another entire rendering (time consuming, and I would imagine creates another level of data loss) prior to output. Is there any way to capture the original tape with this Transport Stream codec already applied prior to editing, to avoid having to go through the final process that Video Studio applies prior to HDV output. Seems crazy to do it the current way.

At this point the final video will be written to tape, if the camera is connected and powered on. This is not rerendering it is the file being written to tape and is a 1 to 1 operation (e.g. 1 minute = 1 minute output).

The thing I don't like about VS10 is that you only have one chance to output to tape, if you don't have the camera connected and powered on to recieve the output and actually write to the tape, you have to rerender the file to output it to tape again.

You just can't take the produced video and tell it to write to the camera. It also doesn't show up in the video libary.
