Looking to upgrade to version 10plus however.......

Post by metmot »

I currently use version 9 and have been for a long time. I downloaded version 10 trial to have a look and like what I see so far. Many nice improvements.

This was until I got to the producing disc part. I found a total of 4 menu templates where version 9 has about 30 I think. Why is this? Is there a content pack not included with the trial? Are those 4 menu templates somehow customizable to represent an improvement over version 9 and I just don't understand?

If there is a content pack that isn't included with the trial then how do I look at it before buying? Is it improved? How many menus? Can they be manipulated like in movie factory? Can anyone clear up this issue for me?

Thanks

IMO, the DVD menu creation system in Video Studio 10+ is a huge step backward from version 9. Operation is not intuitive at all. After you bang around a lot and make a lot of mistakes you finally figure out how to use it. Most useful is figuring out how to turn off the default "Motion Menus," which add a lot of time "converting videos" to the burn process. There is no extra content pack AFAIK.

However, 10+ has super support for high definition video editing.

I have used both the TRIAL version (of VS10+) and the full version. The TRIAL version does NOT come with as many video clips, images, templates as the full version. This is fairly normal for trial versions of any software (less features than the full version).

So how do I know if it is worth the upgrade if I can't see what I am going to buy? John Said there was no bonus pack and the trial version simply requires a code after purchase to unlock so it seems unlikely I will be getting more than what I see.

Smartscene menus are supposed to have two variations, but I see only one. The one with the flower on it. Two thumbnail menu templates and one text menu.

I guess you have to spend the time to completely build your menus from the paltry offerings of templates and be happy with the results. Is this the plan? At least when you build a menu that you like you can save it as far as I can tell.

Also when I make a slide show there seems to be only one template for building it. It has fade to black transitions. Is there any way to change them from fade to black other than manually after it goes back to editor? I much prefer crossfade as a default if I have to choose one. I also have cyberlink powerproducer and it gives me a favorite transition folder I can build and insert randomly. This way I can use a couple or three randomly in a rapid manner. Anything like this possible?

Anyone?

I guess a TRIAL version is just a 'flavour' of the full product and also maybe without the extra components the package is smaller so takes less time to download.

Whilst you "can" unlock a TBYB version, it is "NOT" recommended by anyone on this forum, AFAIK.

There have been issues with TBYB versions, unlocked by the activation key, not accepting update patches etc. TBYB versions can also be of an earlier BETA built than the final release of the full/upgrade version.

So the best way to go is to buy the full version on cd? How do I know I will get the latest release? By now it should be bundled with sp1 shouldn't it? One never knows how long a cd has been sitting around. Should I contact Ulead to make sure first?

Thanks for all the help.

Yes buy the full version on CD and you won't regret it - it is unlikely to come already patched with sp1 - not many software companies update their CD packs - but so what ?? - the SP1 download is free - takes hardly anytime to download and install - you'll do that quicker than you'll get an answer from Ulead.

We've been over and over the menu template issue with VS10 in these forums - a little searching and a lot of reading will show you that although there appear to be only a few menu templates they are so customisable in every respect that in fact you have litterally hundreds at your disposal.

just looked out a couple to get you started - have a look at these :-

Thank you very much for the links. All of my questions have been answered concerning menus. Sorry for being a PITA. I am new to this forum but not to VS and am learning how to search it better for answers.

I guess about every thing imaginable has been discussed concerning features and work arounds.

Hello metmot,

The full version of VS10+ comes with 14 DVD menu templates - 5 SmartScene menu templates, 5 Thumbnail menus and 4 Text menus. But like BrianCee said, these menu templates are so customizable, that you literally have hundreds of DVD menus at your disposal. I know its not the best option, but keep checking the Ulead website, because I believe I read in these forums recently that a bundle of additional templates will be available for sale and internet download. :?
Cheers,

Those additional DVD menu templates are already available

here if you are in the UK and want to pay 19.99 pounds :-

http://www.ulead.co.uk/vs/dvd_template.htm

or if you are in the US then go to :-

Where the price will be $39.99

And don't forget that Steve Jones has also made some templates for free download which you can read about on page 2 of this thread :-
