Hi everyone,
I wondered if anyone could assist me with the following problem:
When i try to capture HD video from my Sony HDR-HC3 via ie1394 to my laptop i receive the following Ulead message:
Unable to switch to capture mode
Check if your video capture driver is working properly
Failed to build a preview Graph
[15001:33:1]
[15023:4:2]
I am then able to capture video minus any sound or preview on the laptop and then when editing the quality is very poor and pixelated.
Please tell me there is a solution to this as i have only recently switched over to Ulead from years of problems with Pinnacles studio software.
Thanks in advance.
Video Capture Problem.

Hi HDVJon, welcome to the Forums...
First we are going to need some more information. Please view This Thread, it provides a guideline to the specific information needed to help you.
J.C. Hunter has written an excellent tutorial on HD video editing using VS10+, it can be viewed here:

Jon,
I had the same problem initially with 10+ because of a bug in the startup code that looks for capture .dlls in earlier versions of Video Studio. In my case, version 9 still had a copy of ADSCirrusUSB2.dll. After I renamed it and reinstalled 10+ everything functioned perfectly.
Also, note that XP SP2 is required for high definition capturing.

MD,
Both ADSCirrusUSB2.dll and ADSCirrusUSB2RC.dll were stored in Program Files\Ulead Sytems\Ulead Video Studio 9.0. When the newly installed 10+ started up, it decided to modify HerCap.ini, which contains a list of capture plugins:
[CAPTURE_PLUGIN]
CurrentPlugin=0
CurrentDriver=0
DriverName=
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=DswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=HotPlug.dll
CapturePluginPath5=WMFCap.dll
CapturePluginPath6=DswUleadMP4Cap.dll
CapturePluginPath7=HDVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath8=DVBTCapPlug.dll
In particular, 10+ overwrote CapturePluginPath7=HDVCap.dll with "ADSCirrusUSB2.dll," which prevented 10+ from capturing from the HC1.
After I renamed these dlls and reinstalled 10+, all was well.
BTW, directly hacking HerCap.ini did not work.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
I have checked the contents of HerCap.ini :
[CAPTURE_PLUGIN]
CurrentPlugin=0
CurrentDriver=0
DriverName=
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=DswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=HotPlug.dll
CapturePluginPath4=SonyMVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath5=WMFCap.dll
CapturePluginPath6=DswUleadMP4Cap.dll
CapturePluginPath7=HDVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath8=DVBTCapPlug.dll
[CAPTURE_SETTING]
ForceToUsePreviewMode=1
DisablePreviewAudioForDV=0
I am using a Toshiba Satellite P25-S5093 Notebook with windows XP and service pack 2. 3Ghz Pentium 4 HT, 1024MB RAM and Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 Graphics controller.
If i set the Camcorder to convert the HDV content to DV before Capture then the programme operates fine. I get visual capture in the preview panel along with sound.
However, when i try to capture High Definition, it all goes "Pete Tong".
Thanks for the replies.

Jon,
Your hercap.ini looks great and you should be good to go with Video Studio HDV capture. Are you certain you have all the menus set properly in the HC3?
Are you selecting the HDV codec in Video Studio? Tools menu/ Change Capture Plugin
MD,
I agree that there is a some flakey software organization in Video Studio - probably inherited from the earlier releases. However, there is also a great deal of good code in the video processing engines.
