Can't import miniDVD-R

Post by Batmanwannabe »

I can import DVD-Ram just fine. And my Toshiba will play the DVD R files like its a movie. But I can't edit, or save the footage. I can only play it.

Can't Get DVD-R to import onto Ulead

Post by Batmanwannabe »

Man, I don't know what half that means.

Okay, lets see.

Nature of Problem-When I insert a dvd-r that I have recorded a movie on, windows media player, and Win DVD will play it fine. However, I cannot edit any of the footage. I cannot save it. I cannot move the video to a different file to import from later. When I go through the "Capture" menu on Ulead, it just freezes up after I press import. None of that happens when I try and import DVD-Ram. I had been switching between the two (my camera records on both) and the Ram discs work fine. Oh, yeah, I forgot about this. I did actually get a little bit of the discs onto ulead, but it never completed importing. For instance, it would only import things from one of the days that I filmed on, and it will ignore everything else.

Properties of Source files- Well, um, the particular file size I'm referring to now is 1.4 GB. So, I'll bet the other DVD-R discs I'm having trouble with are about the same. Um, where did I get it? Walmart. Unless thats not what the question is asking.

Devices involved in Mode of Connection-- I'm just putting the disc in the drive and uploading from their. My camera was too cheap to have firewire.

Sorry, but I don't even know whether the rest of that stuff is relevant (or what it means if it is.)

Sounds to me like the disk is not finalised (closed) when you put it into the tray. That's why VS can only see the last session and not the others. Your camera must have a menu setting for finalising the disk, I guess. RAM disks are written to in a different format, that's why it worked with those.

Yeah, That's what the guy at Circuit City thought. But I'm quite sure that I finalized the disc. I even tried to finalize it again, but it wouldn't let me.
Thanks anyway, though.

If possible copy the discs video_ts folder to a new folder on the HDD and try "capturing" from there. If that fails try renaming the *.vob (s) with *.mpg extensions & load those into VideoStudio.

I don't know how to do that. I experimented a little bit, but didn't get anything. I'm so lost that I don't even know for sure what I don't understand. I tried to move the files or something a while ago, but haven't messed with it much since then. My computer has been so messed up and buggy I just get so frustrated.
